Hello,
You have 3 keys for the main trigonometric functions: [SIN], [COS] and [TAN]
To use them correctly you must set the angle unit to the one your problem calls for.
Press [SIFT][MODE] [3:Deg] for degree, [4:Rad] for radian, [5:Grad] for grad. Dependig on angle unit chosen a small D, R, or G appears on the top of the screen.

If you need the inverse trigonometric functions arcsine, arccosine, arctangent, you access them by first pressing the [SHIFT] key
Thus
arcsine [SHIFT][SIN] (sin^-1)
arcosine [SHIFT][COS] (cos^-1)
arctangent [SHIFT][TAN] (tan^-1)

The syntax for the function is
[SIN] # [ ) ] [=]; [SIN] 30 [ ) ] [=] gives 0.5
[COS] # [ ) ] [=] [COS] 19 [ ) ] [=] gives 0.945518576

Note: if the argument of the functions are numbers, the right parenthesis is not necessary. But if the argument is an expression (with various operations) better put the parenthesis to make sure the calculator is performing as one wants it to.

By the way, there are no keys, or key combinations to calculate cotangent, cosecant, and secant, but you can use the definitions:

cotangent (x) = 1/tan(x) Do not confuse it with tan^-1
cosecant(x) = 1/sin(x) Do not confuse it with sin^-1
secant(x) = 1/cos(x) Do not confuse it with cos^-1

Hope it helps.

It can handle square root but if result requires too much display space it will be displayed as a decimal. As to higher order roots such as cube , 4th and higher they are displayed as decimal. Sorry, there is nothing you can do about it.

How can I compute quadratic equations using fx-300ES?

You cannot solve the quadratic equation with this calculator. It does not have a solve program.

However if you wnat to create a table of values for a function (any type of function that uses the basic scientific function keys ) you use the TABLE Computational Mode.

You press MODE
You select TABLE
You enter a mathematical expression 3X^2-.33X+ 15
You generate the table of values.

My calculator gives me the wrong answer for trig. functions. I have all the right settings.

The results of calculations involving trigonometric functions are dependents on the angle units. So if angles are in degrees the calculator must be configured so.
To set angle unit one presses SHIFT MODE to access SETUP and select the number that corresponds to the unit desired.

Storing
  1. To store numerical values in the variables A,B,C,D,X,Y and M you use the [SHIFT][RCL] key combination to access the (STOre) function.
  2. In what follows [ key] is the physical key and (key) is the SHIFTED key
  3. ex: store the value 13 in variable A
  4. 13 [SHIFT][RCL] (STORE) [(-)] (A)
  5. The calculator displays 13 --> A on top line and 13.000.. on bottom line.
Recalling
  • To recall a value stored in a variable ex: recall value stored in variable A
  • Press [RCL][(-)] (A)
  • Calculator displays A on top line and 13 on bottom line.
If you need to use the variables A,B,C,D,X,Y, and the = sign to create an expression to be solved with the solve( function you must press the [ALPHA] key

=: [ALPHA] [CALC](=)
A: [ALPHA][(-)] (A)
B: [ALPHA][ 0 ' "] (B)
X: [ALPHA][ ) ] (X)
Y:[ALPHA][S<=>D] (Y)
etc.
