SOURCE: my pump does not shut off when the float switch goes down
Good Morning -
I had the same problem with a freind's pump that used a free floating pump switch, first of all the sumpump hole was just barely large enough to accomadate a sump pump, I removed that pump and installed a sumpump that hat a short float connected to the top and bottom of the pump housing and my friend has had no problem.
I did build a short device to make sure the pump as'y stayed in that corner out of 2"pvc.
have a great day!!

Disconnect the power to the unit. Remove the lower access panels and check the tray under the dishwasher. You will probably find it is full of water. Use a towel or a sponge to remove the water. There is a float that will stop the operation of the unit and run the pump if water is in this tray. Test the unit. If there are no leaks, check the drain hose under the sink. THE DRAIN HOSE MUST RUN UP TO ABOVE THE TOP OF THE MACHINE THEN TO THE DRAIN. If the hose is not set up like this, water from the sink drain will flow into the dishwasher and overflow into the tray under it.
If there is no water in the pan under the dishwasher there may be a problem with the pressure switch at the side of the pump housing but the only way to know for sure is to do some electrical testing with a volt/ohm meter and the wiring diagram located within the appliance.

SOURCE: New water ace sump pump will run but willnot shut off
The higher you pump the water, the stronger your pump needs to be, or the skinnier your hose needs to be. A lower discharge point and / or a smaller diameter hose might help immensely.

This really depends entirely on you. the higher the water level the less frequently it will run. most motors use more power to start than they do to run so starting less should save you money.

The switch has failed. Replace it with a new mercury type rated to handle the pump.
