Don't wait to get flu shot if not available at your pharmacy. Get whichever flu shot is available now, and don't wait.

Hello Linda,

If I were you, I would call the doctors / nurses office, explain your symptoms to them and see what they tell you to do.

Please take care & stay safe.

If a person has the flu, will anti-viral shots help?

The CDC recommends the antiviral drugs oseltamivir (Tamiflu), zanamivir (Relenza), or peramivir (Rapivab). Oseltamivir, which is taken by mouth, is approved for treating flu in those over 2 weeks of age and preventing flu in people one year of age and older. If you have it it can help the severity but won't kill it.

Does having flu shots increase you chances of getting Alzheimer disease ?

hi Eldon.
You may have heard someone say that they're not getting a flu shot because it might cause or increase the risk for Alzheimer's. Are they onto something, or is this a myth?
According to the Alzheimer's Association, the idea that flu shots (or the chemicals within the shots) cause or increase the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease is a common myth and is false.
Some flu shots contain a small amount of mercury in the thimerosal, the preservative that may be in some of the flu vaccinations. (Single dose flu shots generally don't contain this preservative since they're designed for a one time use when opened.) According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, three governmental agencies and three independent agencies have conducted rigorous research that have demonstrated that the amount of mercury in thimerosal is safe and does not pose any harm, other than minor redness or swelling where you receive the shot.

What is normal blood pressure for a woman 87 years old

Your own physician is the best source of information about your specific health conditions. Generally, "normal" blood pressure is 120/80, generally. After 75, 140/90 - 150/90 is considered by many doctors to be acceptable, with an eye toward the risks of taking medications to lower blood pressure considered with the benefit to lower blood pressure. Habits like healthy diet, healthy weight, regular exercise, no smoking, etc are encouraged as a first response to healthy blood pressure. The DASH diet is recommended by American Heart Association for all ages, especially those dealing with high blood pressure or risk of stroke and heart attack. Again, talk with your physician for specific guidance on your blood pressure. Per New York Times, https://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/12/17/ask-well-blood-pressure-over-age-70/?_r=0

124 pulse rate is normal?

In newborn infants up to one year old, 100 to 160 bpm is normal. Children between one and 10 years old range from 70 to 120 bpm. After the age of 10, up to adults and seniors, 60 to 100 bpm are considered normal, often centered on 72 as a benchmark for healthy, resting adults.

If yours is 124, when you are resting, this would be high. Consult your doctor.

Are there different types of flu shots available?

: Yes, there are four main types of flu shots available:

1; The traditional flu shot that is injected into the muscle. It contains flu-particles but will not give you the flu.

2; The high-dose shot that is the same as the shot above but contains a higher dose

3; The intradermal flu shot that contains the same vaccine as the others but can be injected just skin deep and can be used on people age 18 to 64.

4; The nasal spray vaccine that can be used on people age 2 to 49. It contains a live, weakened flu virus.

Your doctor will advise you which of the vaccines is best for you.

What is the flu shot? Everyone seems to be talking about it.

The flu shot is the flu vaccine that is given once a year to prevent the flu. It's primarily given to children, people with sicknesses and the elderly but given how many people are hospitalized with flu each year, it's becoming increasingly popular for people to get the shot no matter their age.
