SOURCE: i have a coleman vertex

was the smoke from the two cycle engine or was it the windings in the generator electrically burning, have you checked your breaker on the unit?

How do i start mY GENERATOR

You can buy a new ignition switch either keyless or one with a new key. They sell cheap ones at autozone if you know something about electrical it's really easy to install yourself.
