Black Screen When I put in new batteries, the TI-83 screen is black. I tried to raise the contrast, but all that did was change it from solid black to solid navy blue.

Not for sure but if it has a reset button on the back you probably need to press and hold it for about 10 seconds and see what happens.

My Ti-83 will not turn on, even after putting in new batteries. Occasionally some black will appear on the screen along with some symbols but it then shuts off. Any ideas what is wrong?

Try to increase the contrasts by pressing the key (2nd) and the up arrow until you can see the screen.
Tell me if this fixes the problem or not.
