Are you using a lens with macro capabilities?

  • Anonymous Oct 10, 2011

on the left side of the lens barrel are 2 button. the bottom one has a flower icon. press it 1 time for macro, and again for super macro. the icon on your monitor will show a flower with an "s" inside. you can get so close that the lens itself blocks the light, so be careful. But to get super sharp, (and this is awkward..) open the lcd, hold the top button on the left side of the lens barrel, (MF) while you move the arrow keys (on the round button back side). watch the image for sharpness. .

Canon A1100is. All pics taken with zoom are out of focus. Pics taken at normal are fine.

I got the same problem. Pics with zoom > ~2.5 for distant targets are out of focus. Pics are normal for close targets (~ 2 m). The camera with zoom is a "short sight". Changing setting to 'infinity' could not solve the problem. I did not find solution yet. It seems a hardware problem. Anybody know how to fix?

Im trying to take closeup pics of jewelry, which is the reason I purchased this 12x zoom. I am using the super macro feature but my pics are blurry. Can you give me any tips? Deb

In super macro mode, there is a minimum focussing distance. Any closer, and you have no hope of locking in a focus. So, be sure you don't go past this point.Close up pics have a very shallow "depth of focus" meaning that very little in front or behind what you focussed on will be in focus. Is anything in focus in your pics? If you can exert some manual control over lens openings, you could try using a smaller opening to get more of your subject in focus. When taking close-ups, always use a tripod.

Problems with macro close ups

First make sure the lens is clean. Now set the dial to P mode. Hold down the flower button for a few seconds and the camera will go into "super macro" mode - keep watching the screen or the viewfinder until this happens. You might also feel the zoom resetting itself. You can now go right up to the subject, literally almost touching it - be careful not to damage the lens by hitting the subject! I think in normal macro mode 4" is too close.

Problem with Tamron 18-270mm VC Lens

Hi there,

Do note that all lenses have a minimum focusing distance. The way you describe it is it seems that you are taking close-up shots (also called macro) of small items like flowers or insects.

For some long lenses, the minimum focus distance is as far as 1m or more. Check your lens documentation to find out what this is for your lens.

My recommendation for you if you still want to use your current lens for macro photography is to get "extension tubes". There are a number of brands but any brand will do (e.g. Triplus). Just make sure to mention that you will use it on a Nikon mount to make sure that you get one that will fit. Better yet, bring your setup to the cam vendor when you buy the tubes. These tubes are just extension rings without any glass and will allow you to take close up pics. Good luck

Grainy pics

When using sport mode the ISO jumps to 400 or more, and this is very noticeable in the grain of the picture. S3 renders good detail up to ISO 200. My advice: Set ISO to 200 in Tv mode, then set the shutter speed to 400 or something like that using the < > buttons. You have to try the best speed under the light you are. If the light is very good, perhaps you can use ISO 100 and get much better results.

Green focus box

It might be because u r working in macro/supermacro mode (u can see a little flower on top of the viewfinder/lcd display) and focusing on a distant object or u try focussing a subject placed very near the cam while working with non macro mode. If changing these doesnt solve ur prblm, plz provide full details of what mode u use, what u r focussing on, what is the lighting conditions u used, etc..

Focus

Your camera has the ability to shoot Macro and Super Macro, although in some Dial Modes, you can't use Macro.

To engage the Macro mode, press once the button on the left side of the lens/camera that looks like a Flower. To engage the Super Macro mode, press and hold the same button for more than one second.

Macro mode range 3.9 in. - 1.6 ft
Super Macro mode range is 0 in. - 3.9 in.
To cancel Macro mode, press the Flower icon button once.
Zoom levels are limited, and you will know that when the zoom bar turns yellow. This means the zoom is not available at that zoom level.

There is a fully comprehensive manual in PDF format on the CD. However this does seem to be a fault Canon Customer support will advise on the next course of action depending on the age of the camera
