Before sending it to service, temporarily replace the speakers and wires to see if there is a short. If it works with the replacements, you have a shorted wire or speaker that needs to be fixed.

SOURCE: Getting a "Protect" message in the display which then shuts down
The speaker wires were al little frayed, so I cut and stripped new 3/8" leads and when re-inserted the receiver worked fine. The problem was a short from the frayed wires touching either the back of the receiver or some other metal near the terminal.

I have HT-X40 home theater, but my problem seems similar to yours. It's related to overheating. First check the fan and air flow from it. If it's OK, the problem can be inside the unit. In my case one of the output filter capacitors got broken - it had a crack on its body. Replacement of the capacitor fixed the shutdown on protection.
Another question is what damaged the cap. Preliminary I consider placement of the capacitors as a possible problem - they are too close to the output inductors which can get relatively hot even at normal working condition. There is a short on one of the speakers cables or the speakers themselves. Test all of them with an ohmmeter.
