LG 42LD520-UA does not show picture, but sound is working fine. This behavior is not consistent.

I have LG 42LD520-UA TV for more than six years. It was working fine till now, from last couple of weeks, the TV does not show picture (most of the time) but sound is perfect and you can perform any remote function, can switch channel, change input settings, cast from a device. The power LED is off when TV set is off. When I press the power button, the power LED blinks to red, and then to blue, and nothing on the screen. You don't see the LG logo and date/time screen either. You can hear the sound, and the back light on the set is on. But if you keep the TV set on for 30 minutes, and then turn it off. Wait for few seconds and then turn it on, the TV will turn ON, and this time you can see the LG logo. There seems no problem to display. No flickering, no blackening, or any sign that picture tube is going to die. Any help is appreciated. Best regards Thanks for the prompt reply. I just wondering why this behavior is not consistent. .

If you have sound then you have to go through the flashlight test which is the first step in the blank screen fault with sound. If video is fine then you have to test the LED Backlight supply voltages if your are familiar and good in the electronic repair. First you have to check if bulging capacitors in the LED Backlight drive voltage circuit, replace them which most probably the reason when you turn it OFF & ON after keeping the TV ON for 30 minute. In case if capacitors are good then you have check the backlight LEDs which most probably not required in you case as you can see the logo by switching OFF & ON after 30 minutes operative. Attached videos and links may help you for the repair and replacement of backlight LED strips or LEDs itself depending on the type of LED strips used in your model. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1DEkSguWtg

My TV is a LG 47LN5700-UH I had a lightning strike near the house. Afterward TV would start but not boot completely. Now it won't start at all. Cable box also got fried at the same time.

The led driver AND the T-con board are bad. If you could see a picture with the flashlight then the T-con board would be good. It is not. The led driver can be on the main board or the power supply board. You can get these parts from here: TV Parts Universal TV Stands DLP Chips ShopJimmy

LG TV 42LD520-UA has no sound but the picture is great.

Check whether the audio is muted by accidental press at remote control button. Enter its sound menu, and check it. If muted, as you know there will be no audio output. If not muted, check the speaker/s. If found OK; check and replace the damaged component/s at its audio output section circuit board. If needy, replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device; in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts.

I have been watching my LG 42LD520 for 2 months. Today turned it on and there is no sound. Any ideas??

If you are using a satelite system...just unplug the satelite receiver for 30 seconds and plug back up. Try unpluging the TV and check for the mute function...it may be off. Also go to the sound menu in the TV and be sure the speakers are on. The worst problem is a main signal board.

Tv sound works but no picture, was working fine the night before. Got up this morning and the screen is blank. Doesnt sound like anything is buzzing in the back, no fan and no heat. Its a 50 inch flat...

Sounds like one or more boards in your signal process has failed, but most common is the Y-Sustain. When this happens, you only get audio and no picture when the TV is powered on.

Call LG and them know you understand this is a know issue for this TV and you're ASKING for a warranty repair of this knownn issue.

800-243-0000 Before you call be sure to have the complete model and SR number. Example 42PC3D UA.AUSSLJR, 809HJB2983485

Good luck.

This sounds like the power supply that feeds your back-light is going out. This repair should be done by a qualified technician
