Just bought a carb kit. Which way does the diaphragm go in ? Also,the primer bulb won't show gas.

Issue is in the primer block on carb. may be plugged. On diaphragm side needle may be stuck. You have to take the carb apart and clean it, or possibly replace the metering & diaphragm membranes. Kit is about $8, and how to do it is on many youtube videos. Have fun.

Rick, the primer bulb orifice is probably plugged in carburetor and the carb. will have to come apart to clean and inspect, at this point you had might as well get the diaphragm rebuild kit and rebuild the carb.

Flush old gas. Clean or replace spark plug. Check float on carb, clean carb bowl if equipped.

The diaphragm in the carb is likely ruined from the gas gelling onto it. This will put pinholes in it and then it won't work properly. Pick up a carb kit and rebuild it (if parts available) and then you should be good to go. If you can't rebuild the carb, a replacement will run you 30 bucks or more.

Hi There, Check the primer bulb for tare or pin holes. Replace it. Check and clean carb jet it maybe plugged with debree. Also check for spark which you didn't say. Replace with correct plug.
Note; Do not use strong cleaners on rubber seals (O rings and gaskets) They dry up and crack.
If needed use a dabble of grease on seals

If your fuel filter is clean, and none of the fuel lines are pinched, then you probably need to replace the diaphragms, gaskets, and screen in the carb. Some carbs with the primer bulbs mounted on the carb have a check valve in the primer system. This is the least likely problem, but it is possible that the check valve is defective.

Usually the line with the filter on it that comes from the tank goes to carb. inlet first which is most likely close to the bottom side of the carb.nearest to the engine,then the outlet or return line on the carb.goes to the inlet side of the primer and the outlet side of the primer goes back to the tank. The primer draws fuel through the carb to the primer to the tank if its not? then correct the line connections until it does

1) Check fuel lines from tank for cracks, fuel filter in tank, primer bulb for cracks

2)Remove Carburetor
replace gaskets/diaphragms
a) use a spray carb cleaner to clean jets, holes, and body of carb
b) fuel pump diaphragm goes against the carb body,
then the gasket towards the outside
c) metering gasket goes against the carb body,
and the diaphragm goes towards the outside

change the gas lines around
