Try this:
- remove the batteries
- wait more than 60 seconds
- reinstall (fresh/charged) batteries
Mine was exhibiting the same problem ... it would start to power on, but
died as soon as the lens began any motion at all. It would power up
fine on AC power, or on the dock. I was going to install new firmware
on the camera to try to fix the problem. Reading the firmware
installation instructions indicated that, to complete the firmware
upgrade, the batteries would need to be removed for at least 60 seconds,
which I'm guessing forces the camera into some sort of deeper
reboot/restart.
Please note that the camera will only charge from the computer if the camera is turned off. Also try a different USB plug. 1. Make sure you will install a new or fully charged battery/batteries into your camera. 2. Clean the battery contacts. a. Remove the battery/batteries and the memory card from your camera, then wipe the battery contacts with a soft, clean cloth. b. Reinstall the battery/batteries into your camera. Please make sure that you are installing a fresh/ fully charged battery c. Without the memory card, turn your camera on. (If it works then it?s your memory card that is faulty) 3. Please test with the a different battery If you do not have access to another battery Try these steps instead: Please take the battery out of the camera. b. Insert the charger into the unit from the main socket and turn the camera on. If the camera works you will need to replace the battery. If you camera doesn?t switch on you will need to order a No power repair or a new cable.

Make sure
that
you have the correct battery type installed, and that the batteries are
fresh/fully charged. If the problem persists, you may have corrosion
on the battery contacts inside that camera that is preventing full
battery power from flowing to the camera. Remove the batteries and
wipe the inside camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy
corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sand
paper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery
compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and
reinstall them in the camera. This cleaning solves the problem about
90% of the time, and I hope it works for you.
it might be a problem with the battery connectors. They might not touch the battery well. another reason, it might be the battery is dead or the power button is not working.
These are rechargeable batteries. Just prior to the camera not working, the screen showed both batteries to be fully charged.
Go buy a new packet of Batteries and put those in.
