I have an E21 code and my washer stops completely. Think it's a filter problem, but I can't find the filter

Had same problem. Followed advice on post (i.e., remove bottom panel three screws, unscrew filter cap (have lots of towels cause it will drain), remove filter and voila!). Found one sock, a quarter, and some other junk clogging the drain. Saved $55 house service call. Thanks all!

I found when mine doesn't drain there is a sock blocking the drain holes. Open the door and pull out the rubber gasket at the bottoma nd there should be around a half a dozen holes. Good luck!

The following link explains how to access the drain pump on a Kenmore Elite HE3 front loader to clean the drain pump:

If you are experiencing drainage issues and cleaning the pump does not work, you may have to replace the drain pump. You will usually experience an "F2", "SUD" or "F21" error code (depending on model number) for a drain blockage problem. Since this error code occurs when the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump motor or impeller becomes damaged, the pump will not pump at the required volume and the error code will continue to occur. Replacement pumps can be purchased on line at:
searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com
Prices vary between these sites, so shop all of them for the best deal.
NOTE: Make sure you also check the drain hose and the inlet hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the drain pump. Small articles of clothing can commonly get lodged in this area.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

If you checked the drain pump reservoir and the problem still persists, you may have a pump with a damaged motor/impeller, or something lodged in one of the drain lines. In particular, the drain line that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the inlet side of the pump.
I recommend you remove the inlet hose, first and inspect for clogs. In is common for small garments to become lodged in this area and restrict water flow to the drain pump. Check the output drain line for obstructions as well.
It does not take much to damage this small drain pumps. The error code is generated if the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes. So...if the impeller or motor become damaged, and the pump does not pull water at the correct volume, you may still experience the drain error. In this case, you will have to replace the pump in order to get the error to clear. The following link explains how:

**Before you begin make sure to turn off either the hot and cold water valves.**
The resolution is to remove the hot and cold water hoses connected to the back of the washer and remove and clean the microfine filters located inside washer's intake valves.
*The purpose of the filter is to capture all of the mineral deposits from harsh or rusted water particles.*
Basically, unscrew the hoses (connected directly to the back of the washer)
Carefully, remove the filters (they are very sensitive and could puncture easliy)
Clean them off with an old tooth brush in soapy water.
Finally, replace the filter(s), hoses and finally turn on the hot and cold water valves and best of all you will save yourself about $125!
Cheers
