WHAT a GREAT QUESTION,
the answer is based on FCC (uSA) rules for wifi which is RADIO + Digital controls.
my wifi here (pro grade AP) has 5 power settings (watts RM, mW)
so I can limit range for security reasons.
on high power I can go 50 ft. but is slow.
the ranges is limited by many things, speed not a worry
1: distance.
2: power from AP (they make indoor and outdoor AP)
3: and traffic in the hood on your wifi channels.
1,2,3.
easy as...
brick walls or concrete less
band 1; 2.4Ghz goes farther, 5GHz less but is always good to have both, or even 3 band. now
or get and learn to use free InSIDDer, app.
it is wifi RADAR (like)
on laptop, or cell phone too.,
you walk from you router to far away and sees the SSID (yours)
get weaKER, -DBm less.
example.

you can add a 2nd AP (access point) more near the printer
or use channels others in the hood do not use much./
or get beam focusing AP.
move the AP up higher. for sure clearing objects in the way.
AP or cheaper wifi routers.
some routers have blind spots, (cheap)
