burnt out field windings or failed armature segments would be a good assumption here. Over heating from prolonged heavy load use or worn brushes causing the bars on the armature to burn and burn the wires.. Have an appliance electrician look at it but generally a replacement unit will be required.
HI, normally, when you smell the burning electrical wires and board components, this will confirm a major capacitor malfunction. in this case, all electronic component will be fried or destroyed. these parts are the running diode, magnetron tube,cut-off fuse, noise filter and control board as well. all these parts will be costly to replaced, and it will be more cost effective to just cut your loss and purchase a new unit. the newer unit will be cheaper than the actual repair bill in this case.
Hi,
The Error E40 warning means the door is not properly closed. The E40 error code indicates a loss of electrical power usually but not always due to the door not shutting properly or not locking. But, since you smelled burning it could be any electrical short that blew a fuse and shut the machine down. It could also be the motor windings with the internal overload protector shutting it down.
Thank you for contacting Fixya.com
You dont have to take the armature out to look at the commutator, just remove the brushes (unplug tool first) and get a flashlight and look into the brush tube and slowly turn the shaft by hand and look for a discoloration or unusual look on the comm bars. The slight burned smell might have come from the speed control or the switch itself, but look at comm and then go from there. You can get a breakdown for this tool at Makitausa.com.
