just installed a new Danby DAC8008EE window AC and it has two problems: 1) it makes a relatively annoying vibrating sound when the compressor comes on; and 2) the compressor only stays on for about 30sec - 1min before going off again and then on again after 3min. This is quit annoying because the noise level changes from quiet to annoying vibrating sound every 3 min. When I removed the chassis from the cabinet in order to install the cabinet in the window (as indicated in the instruction manual) a rectangular block of green dense foam was just lying on the floor. One side of the foam block is tacky like it is supposed to be stuck somewhere, but I am not sure. I have tried to call the Danby customer service number, but it is constantly busy.Any help would be appreciated.Thanks,DG
That foam block is an anti vibration dampening device. My guess is is goes up against the underneith od that compressor. The real problem is with the short cycling compressor. I would return that piece of junk.

First of all, stop running the unit until the problem is recognized. You could void the warranty. Since you are obviously not an a/c man get some help. The loud noise could be coming from packing material that was not removed.
If its new make sure you have removed all the transport supports
