From flipping the mower on it's side the top of the cylinder gets slightly flooded with crankcase oil. A good priming and a few extra pulls on the starter cord is usually necessary after this type of maintenance. You'll see a few extra puff of oil smoke upon starting. This burns off in less than a minute.

SOURCE: Toro lawnmower appears flooded and won't start.

Actually all you have to do is take out the spark plug and pull the engine through several times. What has happened is the intake valve was open when you tipped the motor so when the fuel ran out of the carb into the engine it saturated the spark plug. You may have to by another spark plug to get it started or dry yours out very well. The main thing is to make sure that most of the liquid gas has exited the cylinder.

One more thing.... the float needle may have tilted a bit in the seat as a result of haging it tipped on its side. This is going to sound a bit strange BUT... grasp the handle and alternately bang the front and rear wheels on the ground a couple of times by lifting the back of the mower with the handle about 2 inches and drop it. Do the same by pressing down on the handle for the front tires. (2 inches and drop)
IT WORKS!

This should get you going. IF not just respond here and we can continue troubleshooting.

SOURCE: Have gts toro, engine starts then stops can not

Your mower engine has to have these things WORKING to run: 1. Compression (engine in good shape) 2. Strong Spark (magneto air gap has to be correct for strong spark) 3. Clean air ( good, clean air filter w/no air leaks) 4. Clean, fresh fuel supply (gas less than 30 days olds with an inline filter installed in mower's fuel line). These things are assuming the mower hasn't struck an immovable object such as concrete, tree stump etc. recently. This will shear the flywheel key and timing may be off so far that engine won't start. So, where would you like to start my friend? Try checking these things. In the meanwhile....we can try to "coax" the engine into running. Remove the spark plug. Get an aerosol can of carb/choke cleaner spray. Spray a couple of shots into the engine. Reinstall plug. Choke the carb and attempt to start. This may or may not work, according to the conditions listed earlier. If this doesn't get it running, remove the plug and try it again.
We are trying to get it to run on its own, so it will start (or attempt to start) drawing fuel from the carburetor. Sometimes the brass bolt that holds the carburetor float bowl on gets clogged. You drain the gas, remove the bolt and clean all the small hole in the bottom and along the sides of it. This bolt is also the main jet of the carb. Cleaning this with carb cleaner can only help. If you do this, use NO metal objects to poke or scrape the bolt. The holes are metered and have to stay that way. Check for spark, check your air filter, see if the plug gets wet after you attempt to start. If it doesn't get wet or even smell like gas, then likely you have a fuel flow problem. Try ALL these things and post back; and again, if you have hit something solid recently with the mower, you will have the replace the flywheel shear key. It is a small aluminum $1.00 part so don't worry. Post back as needed. We wish to help.

SOURCE: TORO Model 20016 6.5 hp GTS Engine pull cord is

Did you check under the deck for clogs? If its not clogged, DISCONNECT the spark plug wire, and try to turn the blade by hand... Oh yeah, did I mention DISCONNECT the sparkplug wire FIRST! If the blade won't budge, you might have a seized engine. If the blade does move, the problem is in the starter recoil. Rewind the starter string, and check the spring for damage. Good luck!

My gts Toro mower Model 20070 will not start with the electric start. If you reposition the blade you can then give it an extemely hard pull it will start. How can I make it easier to start so I can use...

Try this; take the air cleaner element out and squirt some light oil (like WD40) into the carb and immediately try the starter, if the engine starts right up it likely needs new rings.
