SOURCE: washer leaking from bottom of tub

If you have the tub out the seal can be removed by taking the brass ring off the shaft, its on top of the seal, then grab the seal with a pliers or pry it out with a screwdriver etc. The new seal will cost about $40-$50. when you put the new seal in put the rubber part on first, careful to not tear it on the slot cut in the shaft to mount the basket. Next put the old brass ring on top of the new one, use this to push the new ring on, this will help get it over the notch for mounting the basket. When the new ring is ontop of the seal remove the old ring, reassemble, check for leaks.

SOURCE: leak under tub

you can try tightening all the bolts but if that don't cure it then the seal would have to be replaced.you have to take it all apart to get the tub out then take the 30 something screws out seperate the two 1/2's and replace the seal.this is kind of a tough job unless you have the room and patiance to do it.

Is repair time and parts extensive for this type of repair? Kenmore Front Load Model# 110.45986401

Confirm that it is not the door seal. The door seal can easily be replaced and the parts are available.

You would expect that any water leaking around the door seal would migrate down to the lowest part of the tub leaving the appearance that the leak is where the two half's of the tub are joined by the retaining clips
.
Replacing the seal between the two tub half's is a different story as compared to the door seal. The tub seal is definitely do-able, but not for the faint of heart!!

If the leak is very very small I might wait until a major overall is require such as the tub seal/bearing. If I chose to wait I would monitor the situation.

Inspect the area at the hub of the pulley looking for streaks of rust.. If there is an indication that water is leaking past the basket tub seal than doing an over hall now may included front door seal, tub seal, bearing and basket seal replacement.

Tub to Pump Hose

If the washer is leaking water the hose from the tub to the pump might be split or torn. Don't try to cut off the bad piece of hose and stretch it to fit the pump, this will put strain on the remainder of the hose and may cause a sudden and complete failure of the hose which will dump potentially hundreds or thousands of gallons of water onto the floor because the next time the washer tries to fill all of the water will end up on the floor and so the washer will never shut off the valve. Any time there is a damaged hose, replace it completely with the OEM part.

Washing Machine Fill Hose

If the washer is leaking water, check the fill hoses on the back of the washer, this is the most common place for water to leak. If the washer still has the original black rubber fill hoses replace them with stainless steel or some other, more durable hose.

Drain Hose

If the washer is leaking water check the drain hose. The most common places for the hose to spring a leak is from the connection to the pump out to the back of the washer. Another common occurrence is when the washer gets pushed too far back against the wall.

Sudsy water is leaking from the machine

Hello there and thank you for choosing fixya
The tub seal is the most common thing that causes Maytag washers to leak. This is unfortunate because the tub seal is an expensive repair job and not one I would suggest doing yourself. I say this because it is complicated and requires special tools to perform this job. To check if the tub seal is bad, first remove the front panel by removing the two screws from the bottom of the front panel. If you have a newer model, prize the bottom clips with a screwdriver. Then pull the bottom of the panel until the top clips release. Then start the washer and watch for a leak around transmission where it goes through the tub. If it does leak then the tub seal is bad and needs replacing. If you have the tool or willing to buy it click here for instructions on how to replace the tub seal. If the tub seal doesn't, leak you probably found the leak while performing this test.

Hi, My Frigidaire Clothes Washer, Model FES445RF, which has developed a leak around the shaft seal where it enters the outer tub. Is it possible to repair and can I get to it by removing the outer tub from...

Hi, what you are experiencing is problem with the Main tub seal - The main tub seal is located between the transmission and the outer tub. It's the primary water seal in the outer tub for the transmission-shaft entry point. If this seal leaks, you can see the leak by opening up the machine's main access panel while the machine is full of water with a small amount of detergent in it. The leak appears at the underside of the outer tub, at or near the center. This seal is difficult to replace. You probably should call a qualified appliance repair technician.

We have a Maytag top-loader model A482 which is probably 25 years old. I found water on the floor under the machine when the last load finished washing. What's the first place to look for the leak? I'm...

The most common thing that will cause a leak is the tub seal. If the tub seal is leaking water will be comming from the center of the tub where the transmission meets the tub. This page will show how to replace the seal. http://appliance-repair-it.com/Maytag-tub-seal.html

There is also an air-gap that will often leak. If this is the case the water will be comming from the left hand side at the top. The air-gap is in line with the water inlet. This page will tell more http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/Maytag-washer-leaking.html

If they are not the problem you will have to look for a leaking hose or something to that nature.

Kenmore washer leaking water out bottom in rinse or spin cycle.

During drain and spin only A washer that leaks only during the spin cycle often has a leak in the main drain hose. Inspect the entire hose and correct any problem you find. Alternatively, the steel or plastic outer tubs can rust, split, or be punctured. This may be most visible during large loads and high water levels. If this happens, you may have to replace the entire outer tub--but that may not be an economical repair to make. Consult a qualified appliance repair technician for further details. All the time If the washer leaks all the time, check these: Hot and cold water fill hoses - Check the hot and cold water hoses from the household plumbing. If either hose is leaking, tighten it or replace it, as appropriate. Main tub seal - The main tub seal is located between the transmission and the outer tub. It's the primary water seal in the outer tub for the transmission-shaft entry point. Pump - If the pump leaks, you can probably spot the leak when the tub is full of water. The pump has two or more black rubber or plastic hoses attached to it and usually has a drive belt that spins the pump. If the pump is leaking, you need to replace it. Outer tub - Over time, the steel or plastic outer tubs can rust, split, or be punctured.
