Stops generating and just idles

Genny will run fine for any amount of time and then just stop generating and go to idle. No overload alarm, oil alarm, or anything. Oil level is perfect, as well as air filter. The unit is well maintained. It did this during summer use when it was 112, but we are operating at between -10 to low 30's now in winter so I don't see overheating being an issue. If you shut the unit off for 30 seconds and fire it back up, it will generate like it should for any random amount of time, then the cycle starts all over. I should point out that the random amount of time is never shorter than 30 or forty minutes, but sometimes might only happen 2 or 3 times in a 10 hour day. Any help with this would be appreciated.

What loads are you powering? Constant, intermittent, 110, 220, both? Does the green output light stay on when this happens? Is the red overload light (not the oil light) on? Also note that if the generator is going to idle, then the EcoThrottle switch is on. This is not recommended for use with intermittent loads (like motors) because it causes large voltage fluctuations when those tools are turned on, which in turn causes current surges.

Check if there any alarm on monitor by pressing button several times. It has code like E-number. Replace spark plug, fuel filter. Clean carburator, spark arrester. Check wiring of thermosensor.

Check the Ground Fault Indicator circuit breaker for triping, and look for the high limit on generator. Reset the main breaker by triping it full right and then back. Vitally

SOURCE: Honda EU30001 generator causes erratic pellet stove operation.

Ok Motors and the like generally DO NOT really go all that well from a generator, what load does the Stove use?, You must add up the cumlitive "Wattages" of ALL things connected, see your generator is about 3000 Watts, 3KW, How much "headroom" is there between the two? Whats supplied versus whats being used? Purely inductive loads, like Motors etc, are less responsive than electronic loads. I suspect that your generator is NOT providing enough current to the Stove, especially when "Other" things are connected. also. Look, if the, any, generator is 3000 Watts really you should only load it up to a couple of KW's, 2.5KW being about maximum. To do what you are doing would require, IMHO, at least, 5KW, to get the "Headroom" of current drawn over current able to be delivered by the generator. Also inductive loads loose heaps of power and actually cause a higher draw. So that your answer, you must use it well, inside it's rating, not right up to the limit.

this sounds like a capasitor/resistor that is getting hot under load once it is switched off and cools down it works until it gets hot again similar to that of a cars ignition coil which will get hot and cut the vehicle out but once it cools it will start again.

I HAVE A POWERMATE 5000 THAT SHUTS DOWN UNDER LARGE LOAD . I THINK I NEED AN IDLE CONTROL MODULE.THERE IS A 2 WIRE MODULE IN THE START CKT. #21009XA IS THIS IT AND WHERE DO I GET ONE .

Idle control comes into play when there is no power draw forcing the engine to idle with an electro magent. If you feel that the electro magnet is interfering with governor, temp remove the wire to the solenoid. Usually the idle control will not effect how the engine /gen output power. An overloaded condition will cause the engine the go the full throttle as the internal governor of the engine will try to maintain 3600 rpm. Overloaded condition will greatly shorten the life of the generator/engine. Try to use only about 80 % of rated power. Large motors can draw three times running amps. A compressor using 12 to 18 amps to run can draw over 40 amps to start.
If your generator could handle the load in the past, check the engine for loss of power, or the generator for faulty voltage regulator or capacitors out of range. Easy to check. Connect digital volt meter to plug /load and look at volt reading while running with no load and loaded. Voltage should stay between 110 to 120 under load and with no load (unless goes into idle mode). Good luck

Honda eu3000is. runs but not putting out the full watts. Is this a cheap or expensive fix?

I have the 5kw Honda and have no problem, but I have never tried to run 5,000 watts either. It is reaching max rpms? Air filter clean? Good fuel? Oil? Have you run it much, or does it sit? How do you measure the wattage? Add up a bunch of things like, skil saw, pump, fridge, etc? Let's see, skill saw at 13 amps x 120 volts =1560 watts. Fridge probably idles at 7amps, starter windings use 10 or so amps, tv, 500 watts, computer, I would not run anything electronic with a genny, unless I had a spike protector on it. Check it out, hope this helps.

"I was welding with a

Your generator is a welder?? Yikes, the 220 volts coming out of the genny is not the same as the 220 volts running a welder, it is, but it isn't, the 220 volts used to run the welder are transformed into DC, in the 50 -150 amp range, the 220 volts coming out of your genny is 220 volts, AC, at 30-40-50 amps. Now exactly how were you welding with 220 volts AC? Remove anything plugged into the genny, check the oil, check the gas, make sure it is fresh, check the breakers, check the fuses, get it running, now don't try to weld with it again. Unless you have a big welder to plug into it and I wouldn't even do that because of the generator spikes. I might be wrong, but I have never seen a genny with a welder on it for home use.
