Try spin only cycle. Should drain water then spin. If that doesn't work it may be the power outage started as a power spike and fried your control board. Good luck.

I have a Maytag model A490 clothes washer. It works fine up to the rinse cycle and then shuts down. When it reaches this point it has become necessary to manually advance the dial a short ways whereupon it will fill with water and complete the rinse and spin cycles. This happens on both the regular and the permanent press cycles. What needs to be done to fix this problem?

d sounds as if your having a timer issue here. not recognizing the end of cycle and entering a new one ( bad timer).. as far as time of unlocking this is normal, theres a wax motor holding the door shut for i believe 3 min's.. and the water sloshing sounds is also normal they use a "water filled" balance ring around the perimeter of tub to help with the overall balance of machine

Water is draining but machine is not reaching it's full spon.

Removing the top cover of the dryer, you will find, in the front right, the machine electronic control board with a burned resistor. This resistor burns up when the washer lock motor fails. The lock motor and control board will need replacing. Parts cost will be around $220.00.

only 2 or 3 real problems with this machine, bad machine controller( behind console) although lights on are sign that its good,
Either the pump is clogged and not draining water so it will never spin let alone spin full speed with water in tub, i also doubt that because it seems that s there just water within the clothes and not a tank full of water,
which leaves the last Major issue with machine and that's the motor controller, not telling the motor to spin.. could also be a bad motor but i really doubt that all....

This is a funny machine because depending on when it was made (serail number denotes its age) im looking up the model and your manual states that you have a 3rd yr to 10 yr part warr on the motor, Well on earlier models you cant replace the motor itself it comes as part of a kit, "NEPTUNE REPAIR KIT" which also includes the motor control board. reason i mention that is I"m able to get a motor controller covered by warr(as an authorized maytag technician) if the model will take the neptune repair kit, sure youll need to pay service and labor but the a part would be covered.
