Tripping circuit breaker

Hi - I have a duotherm brisk air unit that is tripping the circuit breaker. If I start running it in the morning it will go for a few hours until the outside temperature gets hot before it trips the breaker. If I don't start it until I need it (like 2pm) than it will only run for a few minutes than trip the breaker. I'm running off a generator and I can hear the ac system put a load on the generator right before it trips. Someone told me I needed to recharge the unit using a tap and R22, but I'm not having any luck finding either the tap or the freon. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response. I tried to post this yesterday, but it didn't work??

The generator is a Honda EV4010, 120 volt, 33.5 amp. Not sure how to answer the other questions. I don't think the generator is the problem though because it does the same thing when plugged into house power. I will check on the condensor fan motor. I called dometic yesterday right after I posted my problem and they said the unit can't be recharged and condensor can't be replaced...the whole unit gets replaced. Seems kinda wasteful.

    Thanks!

What size generator? Peak amps, run amps. What amp draw is the ac rated for?

Replace the start/run capacitor and try it again. If that does not correct the problem you have a bad compressor.

You probably have a dirty condenser coil or the con den ser fan motor is bad or the blades are jam that's why it overheat and shut off by overload.

When you turn on the rear ac it sounds like it humms and then trips the breaker. Any ideas? Thanks, John

it could be the capacitor gone bad. without it the compressor can draw lock rotor amps.

Why does air conditioner trip circuit breaker?

call the technician
indicates a compressor problem
could be a failed start/run capacitor or compress failure

Have a package unit that is tripping the circuit breaker early in the morning, around 5 a.m. each day for the past few days. The blower fan motor was recently replaced, but it seems to work fine, all day...

Excessive current draw when motor first starts could and most likely does cause this breaker trip. I would check wiring connections to motor, check cold motor start up amperage draw, also breaker may be the issue (weak bimetal spring).

My RC air conditioner (Duotherm) kicks the circuit breaker every time I turn it on. It used to kick the circuit breaker every so often, but lately it kicks it immediately if I try to turn on the AC.

Try replaceing the start or run capacitor to the compressor. If no help you can install a start assist capacitor, it helps to start a tight compressor.

Throwing breaker

Throwing the MAIN BREAKER should not happen. Calculate the distance to your main box. Tell me the wire gauge or breaker amperage. Whatever you do, do not get a larger breaker! If its a breaker on this unit Its probably doa with current leak possibly. DO NOT USE fire hazzard IF SHE TRIPS!!! let me know if its your main breaker inthe house. Hopefully you dont have crappy cloth wiring.

Ac Problems

You must have too many things running on that circuit. Check your connection to the power box.Loose connection on the receptacle can cause the breaker to trip or too many things running on the same circuit. If the breaker is old it might need to be replaced.
