5E code. If your dishwasher has been running fine for awhile then throws a 5E code chances are it could be the pump or a blocked hose or filter but chances are its not. 1. Does the code come on after it has gone through the wash cycle and released the soap dispenser? or 2. Does the code show afer 1 or 10 minutes of running without the wash cycle completing, soap dispenser still closed?
Number 1 is easy to check just diconnect the drain hose and run the hose into a bucket to see if the hose or filter is clogged or pump is working. These machines only use about 2 gallons of water and the pressure is very low its easy to do in a bucket. If number 2 occurs, its not a clogged hose or filter or pump issue the machine is not even cycling.
If number 1 checks out ok you have water flow but shuts down and number 2 has occured, its your Case Level Sensor its the electronic solid state float, DD94-01006A its either sticking due to water impurities or its bad.
Its actually pretty easy to trouble shoot or fix. You have two choices but the machine has to come out. The sensor is located behind a metal plate on the lower left side ofthe machine. You can;t miss it it looks like a float, has a black float inside a clear plastic housing and some wires going to it. You can pull it out and clean it (The float should go up and down with no sticking at all). Or just buy a new one $35.00ish and put in. Also check the inlet hose to the float make sure its clear and clean DD67-0057A.
There is one catch to this that can cause lots of grief if ANY water at all comes out of the float while changing it. If any water gets in the bottom of the catch basin underneath, the very very sentive probes will detct it and throw a LE code and the washer will not work. that is not a big deal just need to pull the basin off and dry it out. The smallest amount of water can cause the sensors to react since its a protection system.
Samsung dishwashers are very quite and wash extremely well but there technology and engineering sucks along with their warrenty and repair manuals there are no manuals for the home owner or much for the repair guy.
That float will have problems again and again and again either its dirty or broken and will cause another 5E code situation.
Side note; food grinders in a dishasher are stupid! All dishes places in a dishwasher should be rinsed! A domestic dishwasher should not be used as a disposal. It makes your house stink and tons of bad bacteriea will grow in places you do not want it to, not to mention they are not made to work like you would think.
Best dishwasher with the least trouble, easy to fix, easy to dignose, easy to work on, good manuals, few problems, good warrenty, best built, quite running, washes great, very well engineered is BOSCH.

I have had numerous problems with a 9E error code on my Samsung DMR77LHS, with at least a dozen service calls over the past five years. The service men have related the same information to us and have also advised that a Bosch or very simple KitchenAid will do just fine. We have also been advised that dishwashers with lots of bells and whistles are an invitation to many service calls.
I chose Samsung over Bosch.. it came down to price but compared it as close as possible. Should have gone to this website for a review.
I have a Samsung Dishwasher and gave up on their Customer Service. 5E error code happens frequently. I was getting the code to go away by using baking soda and vinegar to unclog the drain but that no longer helps. The dishwasher is about 2 years old and I have had trouble with it from almost the beginning. I'm never buying another Samsung Dishwasher or any other products of theirs.
This was our problem exactly. Roach in the float housing. Ours was not clear however but we were able to shine a light through it to see the issue. Have no idea how the roach entered the housing????. We also cleaned all lines and scree filters while we were at it. Samsung dishwasher which we have had for about 8 years and otherwise have had no problems.

Drain error 5E
1. Check whether there is any foreign material in the
Drain Hose. - Remove the foreign material from the Drain Hose.
2. Check the operation of the Low Level Sensor. - See the "9E error".
3. Check the connections for the Drain Pump
connector. - Reconnect the Drain Pump connector.
4. Check whether the Drain Pump coil is conductive.
(Remove the connector before measuring.)
Normal: Approx. 25ohms
- Faulty: Replace the Drain Pump.
5. Check the operation of the Drain Pump Relay
: Check the operating voltage between the white
wire of the Main PBA CN1 connector and the
amber wire of the CN14 connector.
Normal: 120V (while operating)
New PBA
5-1.Check the operation of the Drain Pump Relay
: Check the operating voltage between the white
wire of the Main PBA CN101 connector and the
amber wire of the CN201 connector.
Normal: 120V (while operating)
- Faulty: Replace the Main PBA assy.
- Normal: Replace the Drain Pump.
6. Check the operation of the Power Relay. - See the "Power Relay error".
Instead of pulling the dishwasher out, wouldn't it be easier to go to your electrical panel and flip the breaker for 20 minutes, if you need to reset it?

Same issue as described here but the parts are different on the newer one, This model uses an Optical sensor instead of a float to sense the water level. In my case the sensor is on the right side of the pump housing and accessed from the right side pannel. The part number is DD63-00099Aif you are trying to find it on the parts diagram. Its a clear white round plastic sensor with a black clip holding it in. Believe it or not if it gets too much gunk on the sensor it will false read that there is water in the tub and set a 5E code. Took it out and cleaned it off with paper towel and wham bam thank you mam. My wife thinks I am genious!!

Dood you just saved me so bad. I have the same dishwasher, i took it apart and sure enough there was a ton of debree and gunk on the optical sensor. Cleaned it off, wife thinks I'm a hero. Thanks man. Love the internet for stuff like this.
I have this exact same model and I spent a day working on it to fix this problem. In my testing I found that if you unplug this optical sensor and run a wash cycle on normal it will run through 5 fill & drain cycles before setting the SE or 5E code. I removed the2 spinner wands and plastic pump covers in the bottom of the inside of this unit and cleaned the optical sensor. While I was there I cleaned the debris that was caught inside the covers.
On Thanksgiving 2015 trying to wash dishes with model number DW80F800UWS/AA-00 (the 00 is not printed on my label but Samsung said that this is the first model and it would have printed an 01 if it was an updated model) and the dreaded code 5E comes back. I cleaned the optical sensor, but it wasn't dirty this time. I ordered a new sensor thinking the sensor was not sending a correct signal to main control board and had the exact same problem, dishwasher would run through the wash cycle and then set the 5E code in the rinse cycle which was 10-15 minutes into total cycle. Drain pump was working, no hoses kinked, removed dishwasher, turned it upside down to remove pump to inspect, all tested good. Since it seemed to me that all of the inputs for control board were good I ordered the main control board assembly from Repair Clinic. Their web site doesn't have my exact model listed so the control board I ordered didn't work. They have a great return policy which is the reason I ordered from them instead of Samsung. I had to call them in order to get the correct control board. It was on backorder. When it did arrive I installed it and the wash time was much longer than it had ever been and our dishes were cleaner. This was the fix for our dishwasher. I think we just had a bad main control board.
It's a long shot that you'll even see this post anymore, but I'm not sure I understand this optical sensor location. Can you confirm that by "pump housing accessed by ride side panel", it means take the thing right out from under the counter? Just want to make sure before I go do a bunch of work.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the sensor is called "Dishwasher Turbidity Sensor" and the part # is DD32-00003A. My problem was:
1- Little piece of plastic for the tray height adjsutement bracket broken and blocking the discharge pump
2- Drain hose squeezed in the back.
After fixing these 2 issues everything works fine... except I had to repair the tray brackets with tie-wraps....(sic)
It's only 6 years old and the plastic is going to pieces... the dishwasher is self-destructing!!!!
Same problem with height adjusters and same fix. Make sure to break off all tabs on adjusters. have pulled my machine out 5 times to remove plastic from pump. The last 2 times have been for the plastic caps on the racks. I removed all those now also. Cheap,cheap machines, never buy another Samsung. Can't believe there is no filter to prevent these large pieces from getting into pump ??? Hope this helps someone.

We found Terry's answer (first one on here). Option 2 was exactly what was going on so we replaced the case level sensor as well as another part that was clearly clogged that we could not get to and unclog. This cost us $200. The dishwasher seemed to be running fine and then the error code came up again.... this time very far into the whole cycle probably only 45 minutes left (guessing on the time). The soap had despensed and dishes were washed. We have also checked if the drain hoses were clogged.... nothing. Is there any other suggestions? I really don't want to keep sinking money into this dishwasher that is only just over 3 years old!

Found the problem on my DW80F800 series, after having this error several times, replacing parts, and even redirecting my drain line...
Read the owner's manual, and it says to use .5 ounces of dishwasher liquid. That is only 1 tablespoon, or 15 milliliters.
There are even lines in the fill box inside the dishwasher, 15 milliliters, and 25 milliliters... 15 milliliters is less that 1/3 capacity, and we were filling it all the way up.
So... The problem was too much soap, leading to too many suds, the air in those suds lowered the density of the water so much it messes with the sensors monitoring flow.
For what it's worth, I encountered the 5E Error code on my Samsung dishwasher, but the hose was draining water fine, and the pump made noise like it wanted to work, so after lots of searching, some helpful forum posts and YouTube vids, amongst some not so useful, it eventually lead me to disassemble the drain pump assay, pretty straight forward, and accessible in the unit - revealing a lot of gunk and debris. Hmm? Drainage problems? Sure enough when I got to the Bush Filter underneath the Impeller and CaseScroll (didn't know what any of these meant before finding a parts diagram online- link below), noticed that the Disposer Cutter (blade) was broken in half, with half of it nowhere to be seen. Got a magnet retrieving tool with flexible arm (the blade is metal right?) and stuck it down where the water drains out of the pump assay. Bam! The broken piece came right up. It was blocking the drain, causing the Error Code 5E. Ordered the cutter disposer from Appliance Parts Pros for $6 and 2 days later, pump assay reassembled, and dishwasher is running... for now.

It probably means System Error. Have you tried a simple reset. Pull the
machine away from the wall carefully, make sure you do not have wet
hands or feet, etc and unplug it from the wall. Leave it unplugged for
20 minutes.
Stay AWAY from Samsung Dishwashers. They look good, are very quiet but only last a year! We are on our THIRD Samsung Stainless Steel (state of the art) Dishwasher!!
I've had a Samsung dishwasher for 3 years, almost 4 and it's running great.
I've had one for 3 - 4 years with no issues.
I had the SE error this morn. Scooped out the water. Check all hoses for kinks. Pulled out the machine, check for kinks in hoses in behind. Took off the left metal side panel, gave the black floating things some taps to get it moving, went down and turned the fuse for it off for couple minutes, came back up and started it. Seems to be working now. Not sure which part did the trick but i actually think it was just the fuse part...the easiset part I did last. Lol.
Tom, Thanks for your post, I have now fixed my unit TODAY also! It was the kink, I pulled the unit out, and now it works. At least I addressed the situation, now I have to figure out how to put it back without kinking the hose. But hey the washer is running, THANK YOU!!!

See comment below from Terry Henches... The Dishwashers from Samsung a pure pieces of junk! I have replaced the pump twice already and again receiving the 5E or as some people call it the SE Error Code. The drain hose might be kinked or the pump could in fact also have failed again! I'm truely fed up of... For 1100$ CAD you should expect to have a decent product not a lemon with cheap components that break and end up jamming and breaking the pump! You must be extra careful when filling the dishwasher not to break any dishes as the smallest piece can easily mean it'll break the very ridiculously cheap platic pump! Anyways... They don't wash was well... Dishes also don't sit well in the baskets and it constantly breaks! STAY AWAY FROM SAMSUNG DISHWASHERS!!!

Totally agree. Very, Very, Very unfortunate piece of domestic appliance shhit. Stay far away unless willing to ruin your life. Electronics they can do but dishwashers - no way. I will never ever again in my life, neither my descendants by a Samsung dishshhit.
That was the emotional burst for the just received 5E error once again. Service dude has visited (and charged) us how many times? At least three, possibly four even five times if calculating the times I did the hard work myself. Just impossible. Before we had always German brands. Throughout the years, there were perhaps two incidents
in total. Compared to that period, the errorness of Samsung dishwasher is at least 5 times = 500% more which is outrageously more. Of course our unit could be some weird unique error piece but there are articles and complains elsewhere too. Just so f******* tired. Ready to spend thousand euros to get over of this.
