Horrible smell coming from the washing machine

The problem started a few weeks ago with our washing coming out smelling musty but we thought it might be because we were putting it on in the morning and then not emptying it out until the evening.  But now there is a 'standing water' smell constantly coming from the sink drain and from the back of the washing machine.

We have tried putting Mr Muscle down the sink, cleaning out the washing machine drawer, the washing machine filter (at the front of the machine) and putting a boil wash on.  However, nothing has worked and the smell is getting worse by the day and we can't now do any washing without it smelling horrendous.

Dynarod and a washing machine repair company have been to visit and they have replaced the pipe under the sink and installed a new hose for the washing machine. Once they left everything was fine and the smell seemed to have gone.  However, we ran a boil wash to clear any residue and the drum still smelt horrible.  Since then we have done a wash and unfortunately the smell is still there.

It can't be the water supply as the dishwasher would also smell. Please help! Do you think we just need a new machine? Our current machine is AEG and is probably nearing 8-10 years old.

thanks

Cleaning filter , used detergent with bleach washing frequent on 90 degrees and everything tried and nothing have realy worked ?

-----
Vetluis Vetluis , also known as wasluis is a fatty substance that remains after washing in the washing machine . It is not a louse , but pollution caused by oil from the skin flakes clump together with insolubles ( silicates ) from the composition. It is a breeding ground for certain bacteria .
Content

Recognition
Vetluis in drainage from washing machine The first signal of vetluis is usually a foul smell: there is a sewer air from the drum and was clean does not smell fresh.
Over time you will find vetluis as a white-gray gunk back in the rubber seal around the door opening, at the pump, drain hose and the hose to the level (pressure).
In this stage also arise often discolorations and stains on the laundry.
In the final stage can damage the machine . If the washing machine during the spin cycle violently vibrates every time, this may indicate a tear in the cross drum as a result of the corrosive effect of the acid by the bacteria is formed. Note: For older machines can also be caused to vibrate by worn shock absorbers.
Cause
Tarnished Cross drum washer <<<<<<<<< high priority by galvanic corrosion by ultrasoft water < 6.5 -7 ph higher acidity
When washing clothes , bedding, and the like in washing machines remain there always soap residue and organic material, such as skin oils, dander and hair. May develop bacteria herein when washing at temperatures of less than 60 ° C.
Modern washing machines with high energy label suffer more from vetluis because they grow with less water and at lower temperatures.
The vetluisbacterie dies only at 57 ° C. Even with washing at 60 ° C as a result of the small amount of water in the tub, the temperature is not high enough, around the axis of the drum.
Also, the composition of the detergent compositions has been changed: the phosphates have been replaced by silicates (a kind of clay). Silicates have more tendency to attach themselves to rough surfaces, and thus form the basis in which the bacteria are developing.
Finally, the use of is washing changed: due to a larger share (not colorfast) substances in clothing, the use of liquid detergents without bleach increased dramatically. Bleach was always a big brake on the growth of bacteria.

The developments in the field of laundry detergents, and use of energy run parallel to the developments in machine design. Almost all machine manufacturers now use a light metal (aluminum) drum cross.
The drum forms the cross connection of the shaft with the rear wall of the drum. This (usually three-legged) drum cross stands during washing in constant contact with water. The space between the drum and cross the drum and the cavities in the cross profile of the drum, form an ideal surface for adhesion vetluis in which certain types of bacteria can reproduce unseen. This acidogenic bacteria separating an acid from this that in the long run affects the drum of the cross aluminum.
Appearance The bacteria in the vetluis survive a temperature of 57 ° C only a very short time, and can not bleach.
Liquid detergent is primarily intended for non-colourfast and therefore contains no bleach. Therefore, use was for white and colorfast, powder detergent which (oxygen) is bleach, then wash at least 60 ° C.
Because a low water wash temperature even at this center of the drum cross is not hot enough to kill any bacteria, it is advisable to wash regularly (eg once a month) at even higher temperatures (70-95 ° C) , possibly with the optional extra water if available.

Adding extra detergent fixes the problem but the matter gets worse precisely because more than medium (silicate clay) becomes available.

If you dont wash whites with clorine bleach, you may want to every once in a while. Clorine kills germs and backteria which can smell. washer pumps do not get 100% of the water out.

Musty smell, but can't tell from where

I have the same problem with a 3 month old ge front loading washer.after 1 month it started off smelling musty..I thought it was my imagination, now at 3 months old our clothes smell so bad I think we might just have to buy new clothes! everytime I wash a load the clothes smell worse and now you can even smell it just walking into our closet 2 floors up. A new washing washing machine should NOT be doing this! so far leaving the door open in between washes has helped a little but I plan on tipping it back and finding the hidden filter today. Isn't it lovely that they don't mention a filter that needs monthly cleaning or it's location in the manuals?!

Clothes Smell Musty and Damp

It sounds like a build up of washing residue. Clean inside the door seal and do a very hot wash with a bit of washing powder and no clothes. Repeat this once a week until smell has gone.
