HAAA!!! Me, too!! I just got the same code. I actually took off all the stuff to clean it (glad I did too because after a whole week of sewing on it straight, it was hella filthy!), I still couldn't get it to work. The answer is in the Singer FAQ website (http://www.singerco.com/support/frequently-asked-questions). Your button hole lever has been bumped. It is just to the left of the the needle bar. I just pulled mine all the way down, then pushed it all the way back up. No more E7!!!! Color me happy for sure!
3 Cheers for Leigh Dudenhoeffer! E7 on my wife's 7258 just cleared with the button hole lever trick above. Now Quilting can resume.Thank You (husband response:))
Thanks so much 2:35 am trying to finish Christmas gifts and E7, this was the problem, did not even know that buttonhole Lever was there. Had to hold it back while I turned the machine off and on for it to lock in place!!

The reverse button was caught on the edge of machine casing.
The botton hole lever was the problem. Thanks so much
Thank you, saved my evening! It was the buttonhole lever. I've never used it and didn't even know I bumped it. Thank you for sharing.

I had the same problem. Do this: Turn on the machine, then press the reverse button once. Turn off the machine and then turn it on again. This worked for me!!
I have a Singer Starlet 6699, but I think this might work on any electrical machine.
Thank you! That worked!
Please how do I clear off e08 on my Twolion direct drive sewing machine

E7 - Reverse stitch button is engaged, when the power is tuned on.
Tried the buttonhole lever, tried checking the inside switch, took the bobbin control apart, still not working. My manual doesn't have anything about the codes and Singer told me to send the machine in. Literally stopped working after I moved it. This is insane.
Cleaning didnt work
pushing the buttonhole bar up didnt work either
Cleaning and taking off the darning plate was the key for the error E7 message to disappear! Woot, woot!
I just tried that and it worked, thanks so much for the info.

Actually, I wrote I about E4, not E7. There may be a big difference, no?
E7 Error message (for me) is because of a stuck reverse button. I just kept pressing it until it felt like it popped back out a bit. Then turned the machine back on.
I also had the E7 code. Removed the metal fork for the magnetic pickup and it went away. I put the fork back on and the machine works fine
