If you are referring to a gas fireplace:

  • Make sure the pilot knob is turned from "pilot" to "ON" or it will never run.
  • If the pilot knob is "ON", and the pilot is lit, but the burner won't light, it could be a bad Thermopile. The thermopile is the other safety mechanism in the pilot assembly that controls the burner.

SOURCE: Pilot works, will not stay lit

Check your tip switch by putting a jumper wire between the two switch connections. If your burner lights replace the tip switch.

SOURCE: i have a older Miller furnace(1989)the pilot will stay lit

Replace the thermocouple.

Try this, do you have a butaine stick lighter? Try to heat the thermocouple with it ... see if you can get the main burner to come on. If not - definitely, replace the thermocouple.

Thanks for your question.

SOURCE: Have Endless Summer patio heater. I got the burner

It could be the thermocouple, but you have to take the head apart to replace it. If you got the main burner to fire, then the thermocouple is probably ok. Try changing the regulator, easy to do and not to expensive. If that doesn't work, try taking the head apart and cleaning the pilot and main burner orifices, do both while you are in there. If you are not comfortable doing this, hire someone.

SOURCE: The pilot light will not stay lit, I was told

Hi, this heater doesn't have a thermocouple, it uses a pilot generator which is more reliable so I doubt you need to change it out. First thing to check is that you have a clean "sharp" blue pilot, you should be able to hear it quietly roar. If it is yellow and appears "soft", the pilot need to be cleaned. The easiest way is to use a straw or tubing of some sort to blow into the pilot, gently tapping the pilot assembly. That should clean it up and heat the pilot generator properly. Tighten the the screw terminals at the control valve to assure good electrical connections and last but not least turn off the thermostat until you get a standing pilot. Good luck and stay warm.

The pilot won't stay lit on gas hot water tank.

Make sure thermocouple tip is seated inside the burner flame.
Make sure thermocouple is not overtightened. Finger-tight + 1/4 turn.
If the pilot lights, then ECO energy cut off is not tripped, but gas control valve might be bad.
Check color of pilot flame: it should be strong and clear blue.
If pilot flame is weak, or color of flame is yellow-orange: Clean pilot orifice and burner and combustion parts on yearly basis.
Clean air intake screen if applicable.
Increase air supply to water heater. Open a window and see what happens.
Check for adequate draft going up chimney using match under vent hood to see if smoke drafts immediately upwards.
Bleed air out of gas line.
Check gas pressure.

I have universal 350,000 propane heater. Fan runs, but switch will not turn on to allow propane to burner.

The thermo coupler is at fault. If pilot won't stay lit thermo coupler keeps gas off. So, Unless it is a bbQ , make sure the pilot is on or the thermocoupler stays hot while the gas is on.

No hot water, pilot light lights but no burner ignition

Thermo coupler may be defective. it controls the main gas valve by closing main if pilot is out. make sure thermo coupler bulb is positioned over and near tip of pilot flame, but not in the flame. Thermo couplers are inexpensive and easy to change out.

Thermo coupler on all the time, push in button, shuts off gas

Bad Safety valve. (valve w/red button). Thermocouple keeps the magnet open to keep pilot and so gas can flow to burner. Make sure pilot is clean and strong and hitting thermocouple. If it doesnt stay lit replace Safety Valve.
