Danby DWC283BLS Wine Cooler - Error message E3 & E4

I came home yesterday and noticed my wine refridgerator had a code in place of the temperature readout. The code was E3 and as I played with it also E4 came up. The temp on the lower portion read 75 degrees, and wasn't cooling. I pulled it out and didn't see any issues. Didn't see any reset button, unplugged it overnight, and had the same error this morning when i replugged it in. Any thoughts or advice?

    I have the same problem: E4 on the lower chamber. The fans and lights work. The compressor only works when I bypass the electronic board.

    I have the same problem

  • JCBJr Jan 17, 2009

    Same thing, E4 Code. bought a new temp sensor as the customer service rep said (20 minutes on hold) - $22 to my door - removed old one, put in new one, and vola - Nothing, still E4.....I tried swapping temp sensors too and nothing changes, so I guess its the Board or something.

E4 on danby designer wine cooler -
TEST your compressor: Cooler can be forced to operate and cool as a test.
Unplug unit from 115v receptacle.
Hold both temperature control buttons down.
Plug unit in 115v receptacle.
The cooler should start, but the thermostat will not stop the compressor. Now you got a freezer ! I do not know how to fix the E4 error yet.

    I had same. Plugged into power bar with on/off switch. Turned on/off rapidly about 50x while holding down both tem buttons and it did reset.

All of E1, E3, E4, E7 come from faulty thermocouple. You need to take it apart and replace it.

Is the compressor running? I don't know this unit, but know that if you are too warm that is the first thing to check. In reading about another unit that had a different problem, it was mentioned that there is a ciruit board. If it has relays on it then these are the most likely culprit. They are either not making contact or staying in contact too long... sometimes just tapping each relay usually a black plastic component will cause it to work intermittently..Not sure if you can get these but call the company help line at 1-800-263-2629.

Wine cooler frost buildup

Some dual temperature wine coolers build up frost in the rear and top of the main compartment. Check the defrost timer, located either inside the main compartment near the light, or outside on the back of the wine cooler near the compressor. Look in the owner's manual for the correct settings for the defrost timer and adjust yours as needed. Make sure that you have the wine cooler in a spot where the outside temperature remains at or near room temperature to reduce frost buildup.

E4 code for lower chamber of danby wine cooler

I had the same problem on my DWC513BLS wine cooler (12 years after your original post). I fixed mine after much troubleshooting. If someone have a similar problem, here are the error codes for that unit :

E4 = Defrost sensor defect
E3 = Defrost sensor disconnected
E1 = Lower chamber sensor disconnected
E2 = Lower chamber sensor defect
E7 = Upper chamber sensor disconnected
E8 =Upper chamber sensor defect

To correct E4, I had to replace the defrost sensor with part #DWC276.

I have a e4 code on my wine cooler

Hi,

I am sorry to hear regarding the trouble. This is a common problem on this unit. E4 refers to a faulty control board failure. Unplug the unit for few minutes, say 15 minutes and then turn it on. If this would not reset the error code, the only solution is to replace the board.

I wish i could have a better solution.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Code E4 on dandy wine cooler mod # dwc283bls

We had that problem in 2007, about 10 months after buying it from Costco. It was under warranty so the tech came and changed both sensors. It's worked fine until Feb 11. Now, the lower section ran so cold it froze some bottles. I am looking for a solution to that problem.

Compressor is very hot to the touch and hums. The temperatures in the unit are much lower than the setting temperature

Could be a defective thermostat, or you could have placed your cooler in a area without adequate ventilation.

E4 message

Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet and wait 30 minutes before pluging back in. This should clear all settings on the cooler.

E4 Code

Dear moriquenda
welcome to fixya.
Did you try resetting the system by pulling the plug and waiting 5 minutes then restarting the wine cooler?This may solve you problem.

Danby expects customers to call service and does not imagine the rest of the world being able to utilize these codes.

Danby Wine Cooler

If you are getting the E4 error code, try replacing the defrost sensor. The part might take forever to get to you, but we replaced the sensor on the wine cooler and it's working.
