SOURCE: MH 18 B wont stay lit

sounds like you have a limit safety issue, the unit is over heating and kicking out on high limit, or the limit is weak, either way you should look into replacing the limit, hope that helps

SOURCE: Stays lit for 25 minutes and shuts off

How large and sealed of an area are you using it in? I ask because those units have a low oxygen sensor which will shut it down if there is not enough oxygen in the space.(kinda prevents that pesky suffocation thing). Otherwise if using it in larger cold spaces, the issue is can be from the smaller tanks. As mentioned above, a larger tank can solve this, because these units have a fairly good input rate, which will cause the smaller tanks to freeze, and lower the propane temperature and evaporation rate, basically runs out of gas until the tank warms back up.

SOURCE: Is it o k to bend the thermocouple tip. The only

Bending it will ruin it. You need to find out why the pilot flame is not as strong as it should be.

It is usually caused by bugs or spiders having gotten into the small air mix jet of the pilot assembly and died or built a web or, there is some dirt from the fuel that is partially clogging the fuel tube leading up to the pilot assembly, or plugging the orifice.

I changed my thermocouple on my fireplace,it still wont stay lit

Thermocouple keeps the pilot lit.
Thermopile keeps the burner lit.
Please specify what won't stay lit...
If it's the burner, you may need to change the thermopile as well.
If the pilot still won't stay lit, you will want to make sure that the pilot flame is large enough to completely engulf the thermocouple and keep it hot. If it's too small, you may need to take some compressed air and blow out the pilot hood to remove any blockage.

Reliant 501 Natural Gas won't stay lit

Reliance water heater?
Thermocouple is good if the pilot stays lit continuously.

501 is older model. Unknown if this unit has FVIR protection and sealed combustion chamber or open air intake on front of unit.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Reliance-2006-Service-Handbook.pdf

With FVIR protection:
Get more fresh air to the unit.
Clean the flame arrestor screen.
Test and replace the thermocouple:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-test-water-heater-thermocouple.html
Inspect and clean burner and combustion parts
Test gas pressure, bleed air out of gas line.
Replace gas control valve.
Test draft air by lighting match and see if smoke is pulled into the vent pipe at draft hood on top of tank.

The pilot won't stay lit on gas hot water tank.

Make sure thermocouple tip is seated inside the burner flame.
Make sure thermocouple is not overtightened. Finger-tight + 1/4 turn.
If the pilot lights, then ECO energy cut off is not tripped, but gas control valve might be bad.
Check color of pilot flame: it should be strong and clear blue.
If pilot flame is weak, or color of flame is yellow-orange: Clean pilot orifice and burner and combustion parts on yearly basis.
Clean air intake screen if applicable.
Increase air supply to water heater. Open a window and see what happens.
Check for adequate draft going up chimney using match under vent hood to see if smoke drafts immediately upwards.
Bleed air out of gas line.
Check gas pressure.

Pilot wont stay lit on waterheater. I replaced Thermocouple and that did not fix it. It will stay lit on vacation setting.

Most gas water heater problems can be fixed with yearly service that cleans burner and burner parts, checks gas pressure and bleeds air out of gas line, cleans air intake, and checks for venting and air intake problems.

I have an Empire gas heater. It does not stay lit. It will go out after about 30 minutes to two hours. When we first started having this problem if you set it where it wasn't completely level it would stay...

Look at your thermocouple. Is it glowing red from being heated by the pilot flame? Is the pilot flame blue or yellow? You may have a dirty pilot orifice that is not heating your thermocouple enough to keep it lit after the burner cycles off. A yellow flame will eventually burn the tip of the thermocouple, which causes more frequent problems and eventually it will not work at all. If you have a can of compressed air with attached straw, use it to blow out the pilot orifice (with the gas off) where the pilot flame usually burns. Then examine the tip of the thermocouple and see if it is still round and smooth. Jagged or irregular tips mean it should be replaced. A blue pilot flame and a new thermocouple should do it. Hope that fixes it for you. Douglas

I have a readyheater model 65-85 the flame will not stay lit im thinking thermal couple is there a way to test this part? or could it be another problem?

If your pilot light will not stay lit when you release pilot light button then chances are that your thermocouple is bad. Make sure that the tip of thermocouple is directly in line with pilot light. Tip of thermocouple should be cherry red if it is properly placed. If pilot will not stay lit then replace it. If you aren't sure about placement of thermocouple you can heat thermocouple with a seperate heat source. If you do this and pilot light stays lit then reposition thermocouple in pilot flame. If it still won't keep pilot burning then replace thermocouple. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Natural gas hot water heater not stying lit

Probably a bad solenoid in the gas valve. Higher voltage of a new thermocouple keeps it open longer but it still fails over a period of time. Look into a new gas valve for the water heater.

Charm glow gas heater won't stay lit changed thermocouple and it worked for 2 days

Dust build up inside the pilot light burner assembly. A clean pilot makes noise and has a blue flame when it is burning. A dirty pilot has a quiet and smaller flame with an orange tip.
