My Sony cybershot dsc-w55 won't take pictures! I

Your lens is stuck due to either being banged or bumped or there is dirt/grit inside the lens gears. The lens needs to be replaced, but buying a brand new lens is out of the question. Sony will charge $125 just for the lens assembly, it's crazy.

A refurb lens can be installed for about $75 including return shipping. You should check the replacement cost of a used camera and see which is cheaper in the long run.

Hope this helps!

Sony cybershot dsc-w55

Problem is in the lens assembly. My friend at www. f16camera service.com.au has shown me where this camera can have problems with gears jamming in the stepping motor gearset & other times the lens drive assembly. Best taken to a specialist as the pieces are just so small.

Sony dsc-w55 fell and the lens is stuck

Use bit more force to push or pull the lens as lens has been damaged. If applying bit more force lens goes to working, u saved $$$ otherwise, new lens option is always available at Sony repair shops.
