SOURCE: Toro deck mower problem. Why my mower is using excess fuel?

Carburetor may need adjusting. The fuel you use may have an ethyl alcohol content low enough that the gas stations may not be required to post on the pumps. I know most of our fuel in this area has at least 10 percent ethyl alcohol in it. This makes fuel burn cleaner but you also use alot more fuel.

SOURCE: my toro lawn mower is hard to start in cold

This is covered by the Warranty. Take it to a local dealer like www.arcolawn.com and have the thermostat replaced.
The first generation thermostats are known for sticking.

Good luck

Sometimes, the main jet to these small-engine carburetors gets clogged up. It is easy to get to. It is the brass bolt that holds the float bowl onto the carburetor body. If you remove it, gas will readily flow out, so drain the fuel by removing the fuel line and placing it into a suitable container first. Remove the bolt and exterior washer (don't lose that). Clean the bottom hole in the bolt and pay close attention to the very small holes in the smooth section near the top. Use NO metal objects to clean the orifices as they are a precision size and can't be enlarged or scraped up. Clean the float bowl also while it is off, make sure the bolt is clean and shiny and reinstall. This will assure the carb is getting fuel, providing there is no clog between the fuel tank and the carb body in the fuel line. You should pull it and blow it out, making sure it is clear also. I recommend installing an inline fuel filter on ALL 4 stroke machinery.

Toro mower won't start

Try adding a good amount of Berryman's ChemTool in the tank and operate the throttle without the choke while cranking a few times. Let it sit overnight and try again. No need to worry about dilution, the engine will run on straight Chemtool. Always run all fuel out before storing for the end of the season to prevent gum and varnish in the carb.

Lt1050 black smoke after 15 minutes

The black smoke and black spark plugs indicate that the engine is running very rich (ie too much fuel). This could be caused by the choke not opening fully after the engine starts and the fuel mixture is too rich OR the fuel mixture setting is opened too far.
Check the choke lever, make sure the choke is fully open when the choke is in the running position.
When the engine is running with the throttle is in the 3/4 rev position then adjust the fuel mixture to get the highest RPM.

Mower starts and runs but has no power acts like its flooding it burns a lot more gas can barley pull it self

Sounds like maybe the choke is stuck closed. If you remove the air filter the choke is the first butterfly valve you can see. The throttle looks similar but is a inch or so deeper into the carb, and you can't see that unless the choke is open. Try removing the air filter and starting the mower. It might run just a little better without the air filter since it will get a bit more air, but if the choke is stuck it still won't run right. But you will be able to see if that's the problem right off. If it runs great without the air filter, and the choke is not stuck, then the problem is a clogged air filter and you need to replace it. Good luck, Al K

Toro rider 16-38 HXL when I start it revs at FULL speed and sounds like it will blow up. I slow it down with choke all other linkage seems to be in place properly- Is there a trick to fixing?

Three options:

1. The carburetor throttle plate (closest to the engine is stuck); clean it with gumout and work it back and forth

2. the linkage is hooked in the wrong hole ; check the wear pattern on the throttle shaft plate to see if it is in the wrong hole.

3. The govenor arm or gear is not adjusted properly; loosten the govenor arm, push the throttle plate of the carburetor all the way closed. push the govenor arm the same direction all the way until it bottoms out. tighten the arm clamp. Test again

I recommend getting a manual or at least a free parts diagram from a local shop like www.arcolawn.com

Good luck
Joe

please vote me up if the fix was good.

22 horse kawasaki riding lawn mower will not run at full throttle unless the choke is engaged

That is not a good situation. Too rich of a fuel adjustment can wash the bores out on that engine and prematurely wear it out! You will likely need to have the carburetor linkage and plate adjusted so that full throttle operates without engaging the choke. (If this is a single lever that you slide from slow, idle speed to fast, then on to choke)

Toro riding lawn mower. 12 h/p is hard to start

Hi there, It is most likely that the choke isn't closing fully. The throttle cable will need to be adjusted to cure this. The cable is clamped where it joins the engine. Simply slacken the bolt and move the outer cable out a bit. When you operate the throttle control you should see the choke start to operate near the start position. Make sure that the choke control rod operates to its fullest extent when the control is fully on the start position.

John deere js60 lawnmower is fouling the spark plug in 20 minutes. gas is good other mower works fine with same gas. can not locate fuel filter if it has one. large deposit of smut on plug.

sounds like your carb. is running rich for some reason
be sure to check to be sure your choke is fully off when running
follow your fuel lines they may have stuck the filter somewhere or they may be only using a tank screen filter.
Be sure you have the proper plug installed and gapped .030
most common plugs that are used the most is J19LM or RC12 YC

couple things to check for you mowers issue
