Tip & How-To about Luggage & Travel
Tourists are always the target of pickpockets in countries that get a lot of tourism but there are ways to avoid getting pick-pocketed or just to reduce the hassle. Money belts are very helpful in reducing the hassle that would be involved in getting pick-pocketed. What many people do is carry a dummy wallet, one that has out of date or fake credit cards an a small amount of cash in it. And have a money belt under their clothes with their real credit card and more cash. This way if you are pick pocketed you will only lose credit cards that cannot be used and a small amount of cash.
There are some disadvantages to money belts that have to be kept in mind when you think about using one. The biggest is that they are generally worn under your clothes thus making it very difficult to get to so when you need to get some cash out you have to remove some clothing drawing attention to yourself. If you are planning to travel in a warm climate area you have to keep in mind that when wearing tight clothing or light semi-transparent clothing the money belt will be visible. If they can see the money belt then they know where the real goods are and that's not very helpful.
What ever you decide to pack your valuables in the best thing that you can do is split it up. When I travel if I'm taking cash I split it up into small amounts putting some in a wallet, some in a money belt and some in zipped internal pockets in my backpack. This way its not all taken if one bag is taken. Safe travels!
