That truck should have no points. It should have electronic ignition. Sounds like bad wires or bad coil(s).

red and red/white is 12 volts constant
pink is ignition
white is ignition 2
orange is heat/ac
brown is accessory

If you follow the steering column down the sw. is a half moon shaped sw inside attached to the column. Remove the wiring clip and the two screws and put on the new sw. be sure the truck is in park or set the new sw. to the position it is in now. Better to have it in park.

under the cup holder there is a part that looks like a flat blade screwdriver would fit in , get a screwdriver and twist counter clockwise and remove this part and the cupholder should slide out.

You may have a spark problem. Hook up a remote spark tester and locate it where you can watch it . Watch to see if there is a lack of spark when the engine dies. Also hook up a remote fuel pressure tester and see what your fuel pressure is when the engine dies. If you lose spare I would look at the module in the distributor as the problem. If it fuel, it could be a weak pump or a restricted fuel line. Also , find someone with a scanner and have him read the codes. It could be that simple.

Check for a shorted wire that goes to the throttle body injectors. They get caught under the air cleaner and short out.

The injectors must receive a signal from the ECM to fire. What is your fuel pressure. 60-65? Check the injectors wires to make sure they get current to fire. Possible blown ignition fuse. Red 10 amp fuse in fuse panel.

Check the fluid in the clutch master cylinder. It may be low. You may need to bled the system or replace the slave cylinder. If both of these are on, you may have a clutch problem.

You could have a bad engine coolant sensor giving the ECM a bad temp reading. It is located in the front part of the manifold.

Pull the door panel off. Disconnect the linkages from the old assembly. Remove the rivet hood the assembly to the door. Slide the assembly forward to remove. Put new assembly in and reverse the order to reinstall.

Check for a bad ignition fuse in the fuse block. Should be a red 10 amp. If bad, check all of the injector wires to see if one has been grounded.

It could have bad wires, wires that were crossed during a tune-up, low fuel pressure, bad intake valve, slow timing, too lean of fuel/air mixture,worn cam shaft bad injectors

On the lower part of the engine block

Possible a very bad vacuum leak. Also could be bad fuel. there again maybe that your plugs are worn of your fuel filter is dirty. Could also be that your ect sensor is bad. A few of the things for you to look at.

Check your power outlet ( cigarette lighter) to see if shorted.

How much fuel pressure do you have. Should be 60-65 psi.
