i recently bought a sony PSP3004 pb along with which there were only..the battery and the charger and a memory card!! what about the USB?or the mem card reader?
The short answer is no. The motherboard has been changed, and the setup cannot currently be downgraded to 1.5 to run unsigned code. The case is the same with the newest PSP Slims with the ta088v3 motherboard.
There are people working on it, and I would expect that it will be hackable early next year.
I would also recommend that you not download games, but I would
encourage you to rip games that you own. This way, you won't have to
carry around a big pile of UMD's with you everywhere you go. ;)

Is your PSP modified or do you buy games off PSN? If you try placing ISO games onto your memory card without being modified then the games will not show up.(piracy is wrong btw so only rip your OWN games to ISO format). So if you want to modify your PSP simply search for a guide on Google.
The latest version of psp firmware is 6.39, there is no such thing as 9.90. Try going to system on the far left, then going to the top to "system update". If you don't have wifi access, try going to http://us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/psp/index.htm

You don't mention if you have a CFW or the OFW (original from S0ny). If you have the CFW, you should be able to open Homebrew games (that's the term). If you have a CFW and still you cannot open Homebrew games as well as videos, there should be something wrong with your Memory Stick or your CFW.
Try this;
1. Turn off you PSP
2. Remove your Memory Stick and put it back after 10 seconds
3. Put it back and turn your PSP back on
If this doesn't solve your problem, try reformatting your MemStick. Of course, you need to back up all your CSO and ISO files to your PC including your p0rns (eh, videos I mean). LOL
If reformatting doesn't work, try reinstalling your CFW. Get back to me if the first solution don't work and I'll guide you on re-installing your CFW...

I think upgrading to higher versions will disable you from playing homebrew. Try CFW that is 6.20 or upgrade it to 6.35... Be careful though, installing CFW to your PSP (especially it's slim which has the chance to have a TA088v3 MoBo) may result to PSP bricking.
Try to search the web as many as possible to make sure you're doing the right thing. I cannot give you the answer here because playing homebrew in PSP is quite vast and if I were you, I'll browse a lot before touching my PSP again... Here's what you need to know;
1. Your PSP Slim MoBo (Motherboard) - make sure that it's not TA088v3. To know your MoBo version, download and install PSPIdent in your PSP and run it. It will create an image file detailing what is your PSP MoBo version.
2. Being ready for Pandora and Magic Memory stick in case you brick your PSP (which works only to those with non TA088v3 boards).
3. Files you are downloading. Installing CFW to play homebrew is tricky. You need to download the correct file which is ultimately relative to each other in order to do it right.
Now, you may consider browsing PSPmod and everythign Dark Alex is doing to get a worthy solution to your problem...

It's
easy to update/upgrade the Playstation Portable (PSP) 3000 system
software to firmware version 6.20. There are two ways to do a PSP 6.20update
- regular file download and network update. We did an update on our
pink PSP 3000 using the network update procedure since our place has
wifi.
Why did we choose network update in
updating our PSP firmware to ver 6.20? It's much simpler. Here is a
quick tutorial on how to carry out PSP 6.20 update using Network Update
(Method 1):
Go to Network Settings to configure your PSP WLAN by setting up an access point.
Under Network Settings, it would be best to choose Automatic to
simplify the process. Your PSP console will search for any wireless
network available nearby.
To Update System Software to the latest 6.20 firmware version, Go
to Network Update. Be sure your battery is full because the update will
fail if you turn off you PSP console or if the unit shuts down due to
lack of battery power.
Method 2: Download File To Update PSP 6.20 Firmware Using a PC. If you prefer to update your console using the download method, here are the simple steps in doing this:

When you select the firmware you want to install, download it. You will get a .zip file with a file inside called EBOOT.PBP. Follow these steps to update:
1.) Connect your PSP to your PC.
2.) Open the PSP folder and then the GAME folder.
3.) Right click INSIDE the GAME folder, and click New Folder
4.) Name the new folder UPDATE
5.) Place the EBOOT.PBP file you downloaded into the UPDATE folder.
6.) Disconnect your PSP from your computer, and select the MEMORY STICK ICON in the GAME section.
7.) Find the PSP Update Version.. and run it, complete the on screen steps to install the new firmware.
You need to connect to each other wirelessly in ad-hoc mode. You've probably got them both set to infrastructure.

Check if your PSP is hackable. Hack it and put CFW on it, so you can download WWE from the 'net. Fixya's policies prevent me from discussing this though; technically, thats software piracy, which is a felony.
I'm assuming you tried to mess around with the firmware recently, no? Because it certainly sounds like it. Check the bar code on the bottom of the PSP. if it starts with AB02, and you already tried to flash the firmware, then it's totaled. Unless of course, you are using a pandoras battery, and not a regular one. Try getting a normal battery, or converting your pandora back to a normal one.
