I have the same problem
I don't know why it's happening
But i solved it by pulling the screwdriver over the bottom part of the green plate thing so it touches every pair of solderings
I bet one capacitor charges up and cannot discharge so it doesn't allow usb to work... Don't ask me how, don't ask me why, only thing i know, it works!

recalibrate it on the windows program, or download the logitech calibration program from their website, also make sure the pedals are properly connected to the wheel, if the connector is loose it might not work properly.

to recalibrate on windows - start - control panel - game controllers - logitech momo - properties - calibrate.

If the game supports wheels, yes you should be able to use any wheel with the game, just a matter of adjusting the settings properly for it to work 100%

no you cannot

circa 1984-2014? a 20 year gap is not a "circa"... logitech probably made a couple hundred of controllers during such a long time try to find the model of the pad. also, being that old it would be hard to fix it or get drivers. new ones are inexpensive.
