Help with an older sewing machine
There are lots of men who sew...it is not gender specific.
Perhaps this will help--unfortunately not free:
Wards 1984 Instruction Manual
Montgomery Wards Sewing Machine Instruction and Service Manuals
Montgomery Ward did not make their own machines, so it was most likely manufactured by a sewing machine company with Montgomery Ward's name on it.
However, most machines thread similarly. Just be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread--this allows the thread to seat in the tension disk. Set the top tension to about the midway point to start and then tweak from there.

Bobbin tension is usually the last thing to try to adjust...be sure to mark the screw setting BEFORE making any adjustment...
Bobbin Tension How and Why Tension is Adjusted
Needles are probably the least expensive resolution to a lot of sewing machine problems--change them often!!! About every 8 hours of sewing, and be sure to use a needle that is compatible with the thread and fabric. Be sure to install the needle with the flat part facing the correct direction. Most machines have the flat part facing the back of the machine, however, some machines with the bobbin loading from the side will have the flat part of the needle facing the harp (throat) of the machine. AVOID old or bargain bin threads! Use fresh, good quality sewing machine thread (generally, Coats & Clark is not one of them...)

1408 1409 how to put the bobbin driver back in
I'm not totally sure what you're referring to, unless it's the bobbin CASE. It has a metal bobbin, and the part that the thread comes out of inserts so its at the top. There is a latch on the case that pulls out from the right. Keeping the latch open, push into the machine.
I would recommend that you download your machine's user manual from the singer site, where it's available free. It has several pictures of the correct procedure.

How to remove covers from singer 7422?
Manufacturers of newer machines frequently make the covers difficult to remove simply because the internal mechanisms comprise computerized components that can be easily damaged. (They are also reluctant to allow John Q. Public to service their machines.) Usually, there are little plastic protrusions on the cases that interlock and can be easily broken. Just curious why you would want to remove the case on a computerized machine since it is a closed system and little maintenance required except perhaps a few drops of oil in the shuttle area.

Why doesn't presser foot stay up?
If you can open the left face cover of your machine, you may be able to see where the presser foot mechanism is malfunctioning. Could have become disconnected....

Foot feed stopped working
Manually turn the handwheel. Are the feed dogs still moving but remain below the sewing surface so they do not contact the fabric? Check to make sure the feed dogs have not been set to the darning function. Also set the stitch length to a 10-stitches per inch to see if that makes a difference.

IS THERE AN ENGLISH VERSION OF SINGER 7422 MANUAL THAT IS DOWNLOADABLE?
Hi
I have managed to find two sites offering downloadable versions of the manual you want. However they both charge for the privilege. The first is the Singer site itself here:
SINGER Instruction Manual pdf model 7422
and they do say that if you pay up then on checkout then they will send an email with a link for immediate download in pdf format.
The other site is here:
Singer Instruction Manuals 6000 9999
and you can scroll down to your model. They state clearly that download orders are not immediate but subject to confirmation, but they do say expected within 1 hour.
My experience is mainly computers and I was surprised to find the manufacturer charging for a manual, but different industries, different standards I suppose. Ho-Hum.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers

Bobbin won't wind Singer 7422
Your problem lies with the main shaft that is to tight to release the bobbin winder mechanism, because of old grease and oil becoming sticky. A short term solution will be to remove the needle, in order not to hurt you, and then hold on to the needle bar with your left hand, while engaging the bobbin lever with your left hand. This will prevent the main shaft to rotate and your winder should work. In the long term, take it to your dealer to clean the oil and grease. You will not be able to open the machine casing yourselve, as you might damage the casing and or electronics.
Good luck!

What light bulb do i buy for a singer ingenuity?
There are two LED light bulbs and assembly for sale on eBay for $4.99 with $2.00 shipping right now. It is part ##087502. Do a search for Singer 7422.
It comes mounted on a tiny circuit board, and the other ends plug into a larger circuit board. Just observe how and where the other one unplugs; it's not at all difficult to do, and the plug end only goes in the correct way--it just won't fit any other way.

Why does thread bunches up on bottom?
Usually a problem on the bottom indicates the machine is not threaded correctly on the top. (The thread that goes to the needle.) sometimes the tension disks are missed or need adjustment. With the presser foot down, can you easily pull the upper thread or can you feel tension. If necessary, completly rethread the top thread.
