I was able to fix the problem nut it requires several steps and only offers a temporary fix (untill the calculator is reset then it needs to be done again).
1. Press F5, then Dimond (symbol on buttion) then "Clear"
2. Press "alpha" then "S"
3. Press "0" dont mess with anything else here
4. Press "2nd" then "Quit"
Now you can turn it off but are missing the bottom text (rad,auto, etc...) to fix
6. Press "Mode" change radian to degree then "enter"
Now the text is displayed showing the mode.
7. Set the mode back to radian by reversing step 6.
Thats it I dont know how to get the bottom line back though...

Not sure if TI-89 mode keys are the same, but here's the solution for that calculator:
1. Hit the mode key
2. Hit F3 to get tot Exact/Approx (might be different for 89T).
3. Set it to Exact.
4. Take a look at T-89 manual pages 327, 328, 329.
Nice of TI to NOT include that in the manual, huh?

Please don't get your hopes up, but perhaps something in the following few suggestions will work:

For the TI-89 Family, TI-92 Family, and Voyage™ 200:

1. Adjust the contrast by pressing and releasing the Diamond Key key followed by pressing and releasing the [+] key; repeat as necessary. To adjust or lighten the display, use the [-] key.
2. Users of the TI-89 Titanium or Voyage 200 should see the following case before performing the following reset procedure to prevent the loss of valuable Apps.
   On the TI-92 family or Voyage 200, hold the [2nd] key and the [hand] key, then press and release the [on] key. On the TI-89 family, press and hold the [2nd] key, left arrow, and right arrow; then press and release the [on] key. This should reinitialize the operating system, in which you should see a progress bar filling on the screen.
3. Remove one of the AAA or AA batteries. Press and hold the [APPS] key, and while holding the [APPS] key, replace the battery and turn the unit on. TI-89, 92 Plus, or Voyage 200 users should see "Press I to install code...", and should press the [9] key. The calculator should then say, "Waiting to receive...". TI-89 Titanium users should see "Waiting to receive..." or "Waiting to received OS...". You will need to restore the calculator's operating system.

I would hunt around on the TI knowledge base to see if there are some more useful suggestions if nothing above works. If I find any more info that could be useful I will post it.

You have to reset
• Press [2nd] [6] (MEM) [F1] [ENTER(RAM)]
• Select 1:ALL RAM
• Press [ENTER]
• Press [ENTER]
NOTE- erased half of my programs(I think only the ones in the main directory)

I had the same problem, this worked for me:

Mode -> page 2 -> Exact/Approx change from "Exact" -> "Auto"

the problem is you haven't given it anything to solve...
always add a comma and the variable after any solve, differentiate or intergrate problem...
eg:
solve(x^2=4) is wrong!
intead put:
solve(x^2=4, x)

First you must configure your calculator to perform 3D graphics
Press MODE
1.The first line shown is Graph. Unfold the hidden menu list with the right arrow and choose Graph 5:3D
2. Press ENTER to validate.

Now you must define the surface you want to draw
1. Press the [diamond] key then [Y=] to get a list of function names, the first of wich is z1
2. Enter the following function (or your own) z1=(x^3*y-y^3*x)/390
( x cubed times y -y cubed times x) divided by 390.
3 Press ENTER.

Graph the function
Press the [diamond] key then [GRAPH]

The graphing screen displays progess in %. When it is finished you will see a weird sombrero.

No you don't have to download a interpolations program, you can enter it in as a function like this:

:dp(xx1,yy1,xx2,yy2,x)
:Func
:yy1+(yy2-yy1)*((x-xx1) / (xx2-xx1))
:EndFunc

How I do it is, I put it in a folder dc so, you create a folder name dc

2nd key then - key which will be the VAR-LINK key
hit F1 key then the 5 key to create a new folder. Type in what you want to call your folder in my case dc and hit enter.
Next,
Hit APPS key then 7 key then the 3 key, then you see the word program highlighted open it up and change to Function hit enter.
Then slide down to your new folder you just created in my case dc, once you find it highlight it and hit enter.
Next,
slide down to variable and type dc and hit enter.
Next, type in or make it look like this:

:dp(xx1,yy1,xx2,yy2,x)
:Func
:yy1+(yy2-yy1)*((x_xx1)/(xx2-xx1))
:EndFunc

Now when I'm at the home screen in the main folder, I type:
dc\dp(0,0,5,100,2)
And I get 40 for my answer.
Here's my logic:
0,0 is the starting point, let's say my circuit max voltage is 5 volts and my max resistance is 100 ohms. I want to interpolate or know how many ohms I would have if my circuit measured 2 volts, which is 40 ohms.
Now if I had ohms and wanted volts I just set it up like this:
dc\dp(0,0,100,5,40)
which equals 2 volts

Absolutely! Here's how:
-Make sure the function is in the form f(x)=.... (treated as y=...)
-Then, go to "y=" on your calc
-Plug in your equation (using x as your other variable regardless of whatever your book/worksheet uses)
-Hit "graph"
-For Domain, look at possible limitations on x values (does it stop at 3 no matter what? are there no limitations? etc)
-For Range, look at limitations on y values

Here is what you do:

1) Press the Mode button.
2) Scroll down the list that appears until you find "Exact/Approx".
3) Change the setting for "Exact/Approx" to Exact.
4) Press enter to save the settings change.

You have three possible settings for "Exact/Approx":
1) Auto - The calculator will try to determine the best format.
2) Exact - The calculator will always give the answer in fraction form.
3) Approximate - The calculator will always give the answer in decimal form.
