How do I lower feed dogs on Singer 5050 sewing machine?

Now that is a tough one to answer, open the side by the needle and pull out your bobbin and then take off the next piece, should have two swivel pieces on it ,turn them to loosen the piece, watch how it and the piece it is holding fit together as it is no fun trying to figure it out later. Then you should see some screws that hold the feed dogs on to the machine. You might try putting a washer in between the feed dogs piece and the machine to lower it. Do one screw at a time but have them both loose and see if that helps you at all.

5050c bobbin wont wind

The pickup wheel under the bobbin stem may be worn and needing to be replaced (assuming it has not been knocked and bent off line) . Try using a pen to push the bobbin stem further over when you are trying to wind it. If it starts to spin, then this is probably the answer.

Needle stuck in right position

Try directing heat from a handheld hair dryer into the internal mechanics where you applied oil. If the old oil has solidified, it is probably preventing the parts from moving freely. Be sure to always use Fresh, good quality sewing machine oil (NO 3-in-1, WD-40, cooking oil, or old stinky oil from grandma's sewing basket). Also apply only 1-2 drops each spot. Frequent oiling should be around every 40 hours of sewing time, or at least every 3 months. Here's a manual if you need one (oiling instructions on pg 74): 5050 Singer Sewing ..

Thread does not lock. one thread is zig zag the other is straight and can be pulled right out

The tension has got to be even between the top and bottom. Good thread is always important. I've included a pamphlet to help you set the tension. If it is still a problem you may need to get it timed. 25701009-u4uskpfede35yn0uis4lldpv-4-0.jpg 25701009-u4uskpfede35yn0uis4lldpv-4-2.jpg

Which machine shud i

a mechanical sewing machine has only knobs & dials
a computerized has a LCD screen-some screens are large & some are small,,a lot of people like computerized or electronic- because they are push buttons,,
I personally have a mechanical sewing machine & a electronic or computerized sewing machine
I use both to make clothes & quilts, my husband which does quilting like the electronic machine better, cause it's push button.
when I make buttonholes I use the electronic sewing machine because it does it in one step automatically
there are a lot of advantages to the electronic sewing machine, push button, one step buttonhole,
needle threader, decorative stitches, the stitch length & stitch width are push button selection
when you get a sewing machine make sure it has a manual with it,,that's very important,,it will tell you the different functions of the machine & how to do the setting.
as far as brand of sewing machine, I've owned singer, babylock, brother, necchi, machines, there are good & bad in any brand, when you buy one if it doesn't work when you take it out of the box & start sewing--take it back & get another one--cause machine should be ready to sew when you take it out of the box
happy sewing

Singer 5050c when I move the bobbin shaft to engage to fill the bobbin it won't engae

That usually means the clutch or belt is worn out, and it's not worth fixing. You can buy an inexpensive bobbin winder for under $25.00 at WalMart online, and if you pick it up at a WalMart or FedEx facility like Kinkos, shipping is free. Does a better job anyway!

Is there a video on how to thread bobbin on singer 5050

I would recommend that you consult the user's manual. They are generally well-written if you take it step by step. You can get it as a free download from Singer at http://www.singerco.com/support/instruction-manuals/search.

Thread bunches up when replacing thread on bobbin

If the thread is bunching or tangling when winding a bobbin, check that you have properly threaded the winder. Especially make sure you are running the thread through the bobbin tension assembly.

What size bobbin does a singer 5050 use?

If it's a drop in bobbin machine, it's best to use the class 66 bobbns. The sides are rounded so that when the hook grabs the thread and pulls it around it can slide over the bobbin more easily
