Some times if the steering wheel is not in the right position you can have this problem. Giggle the steering wheel back and forth while turning the key to off.

i think i know what the issue is. I had the same problem. There is a moduel that will bypass and fix it. You can do it yourself. They guarantee the part so i it doesnt work for some work for some reason u can send it back.. Hope this helps ya Do It Yourself GM Security bypass

I think i know what your issue is. Its really common in GM cars.. I had it happen in mine.. I did a lot of research and found a site that sells a module that will take care of the issue. I used it about 5 years ago and my car starts every time. And its hell of a lot cheaper than taking it too a mechanic .. You can install it yourself and he guarantees it.. Check it out your car make and model is on the list.. I hope this helps ya

PASSLOCK SENSOR BYPASS If you find the black wire and the yellow wire from the passlock sensor in the column you can solder in a 2.2 K ohm resistor and then attempt to start the car.It will stall don't turn the ignition off.Let the ignition on for ten minutes or until the theft light goes out.Turn the key off for ten seconds then attempt to start the car.If it now runs you have been successful.If it doesn't you either made a mistake or there are other problems besides the ignition lock cylinder.

go to a gm dealer and buy another key switch and key or go to a place they install remote starters and get a key mod they will need your key to program it

Check to make sure the gear select lever is in the park position. Try starting the vehicle with the gear select in neutral.

You state that the vehicle starts, then dies. Does this happen with the key or with the remote starter?If this happens with the remote starter, there may be an issue with the immobilizer bypass. If the bypass you have installed is the Passlock SL2, Check the power, ground when running and chassis ground connections as well as the data and ground connections at the steering column. The Passlock SL2 should not prevent the vehicle from starting because no wires are cut. The resistance may fluctuate between the key and BCM from time to time so, the SL2 should read the accurate resistance each time the key is turned to start the vehicle.If this issue is occuring with the key, try to reset the vehicle security: Apply the vehicle parking brake. This will keep the day time running lights from coming on and draining the battery during this procedure. Turn the ignition on (make sure it's ignition and not accessory), DO NOT ATTEMPT TO START. If you attempt to start the vehicle during this procedure you will have to start over.The security light will flash during this time. This process takes approximately ten minutes. After approximately ten minutes, the security light will come on solid and then go off. If this happens, turn the vehicle off, then start the vehicle. This is considered a soft reset. If the security light continues to flash after ten minutes, turn the key off and attempt the reset again. Two to three attempts is a hard reset.

Many GM Ignition switches have one or 2 harnesses as well as 3 wires for the key passlock. On the back of the ignition switch there is a cable that must be fully inserted in order for the key to be released. Please try to manually push it in (you may have to remove the front bezel as well as the radio to get to it). Sometimes shifting from neutral or drive into park will also release the key.

These bypass modules usually are a pretty simple installation. Some of these reasons that they fail to operate would include the ground when running connection and igniton signals. Try connecting the ground when running to chassis ground and then remote start the vehicle. If this is the issue, use a relay to provide a better signal for the ground when running. Do not leave this wire connected to chassis ground.

By "aux" I assume that you mean accessory. The ONLY reason (under normal operating conditions) that your ignition key will not turn completely to the off position, allowing you to remove the key is that the vehicle is not completely in park. The padlock in the cluster is the factory is the factory anti theft/immobilizer also known as Passlock.

This refers to the internal anit theft system.

Maybe your battery is not charged up enough to start the car. newer cars have to have some voltage higher enough to spin the starter or operate the bendix. If the lights come on dim? then it's your battery.

Without seeing the car and from your description. You should make sure that the gear selector is in park.

you need to buy a passlock/vats bypass module, a vats system is easy but it sounds like the passlock is the same. on a vat system ya find the wire from the vat to the key then OHM it out to find its resistance and then add a resistor inline with ignation wire to the key ... chevrolet has this problem frequently on this model car and there is a service bullentin;in which,you can possibly get this repaired for free.check your computer for this particular bullentin and call your dealer.If no luck there's several possible causes of this problem and solution's.pull your console and check for broken wire's to your shifter lock solenoid and repair these wires if broken,the problem is that your ignition responds to your shifter and lets it know that you are in park and safe to get out of your car.If the shifter doesn't go all the way in park then the ignition wont completely dis-engage.It's also possible that you have a bad ignition switch.check for stuck boot on your shifter lever,some would say replace your entire shifter mechanism,but that may not be your best solution!!
