Rival 38501 Smart Pot 5-Quart - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Can't go straight to warm setting
Hi, Guys,
I discovered this solution by accident. To get my crock pot to go to the "Warm" setting directly, I begin by pressing and holding the "Cook Time" button. Then, with the cook time button held down, press and release the "Off" button, holding it down for a second or so and then releasing it. Finally, lift your finger off the "Cook Time" button. Presto! The unit will be set on "Warm." So the key to this is to press and release the "Off" button WHILE the "Cook Time" button is being held down. Might take a couple tries before you get it, but then you'll see that it works every time.

Need a new cover
Believe or not, go to your local Goodwill Store! They have tons of crocks and the lids and the cookers separate frm each other that have been donated becase one of the pieces was broken and they donated the rest of the pieces. Lids and crocks typically range from $1.99 to $5.99 and you benefit your community at the same time.

My crockpot burns food, even
Your crockpot heat unit is overheating. Return it to the store you purchased it at or contact the manufacturer. My Rival did that and I contacted the company and they sent me a new one.

How many pounds of sloppy joes can I fit in my
Well, that all depends on how dense a sloppy joe mixture you make. If you add pounds and pounds of ground beef to the mix and just the sloppy joe sauce, then it would be many pounds.
But as for a good rule of thumb, "A pints a pound the world around" In other words, if you're making sloppy joes from the pre-mixed cans, just weigh one 16 oz (1 pint) can and that's 1/2 quart.
If you're making it yourself, we're back to the whole density of your chosen ingredents.
However, I've done a little research for you and based on the density of cooked beef and converting the weight of that cooked beef into the 5 quart volume of your crockpot, I've come up with the following info for you.
Cooked Beef has a density 129.52 Ounces per Gallon (a technical measurement)
So based on that data (not including your sloppy joe seasoning/sauce and other add-ins), you should get approximately 10.12 Pounds of Sloppy Joe Mixture to fit into your 5 Quart Crockpot.
I would guess that the amount would be just slightly less, since you might want a little room for putting on the lid, etc., but you should get around 10 Pounds to fit easily in your 5 quart crockpot.
I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Replacement liner?
I had an idea. If you can find a local ceramics dealer, one that pours their own molds. They might be able to make a mold from the crockpot. Then you have fired. then you paint it with glaze, and fire it again. I'm going to try this myself. I know I can just go buy another crockpot but I like the idea of a challenge.

Rival crock pot
Yes, it's not unusual for the outside to be too hot to touch. A slow cooker won't get as hot as a bare burner on the stove, but it still gets hot enough to cook meat. The outside has a bit of insulation, but it still may get hot enough to cause pain, melt a bread bag, etc. Be sure and place it where no one will accidentally touch it.

a ceramic or clay pot is the only solution.steel is hopeless for casseroles
same as frying eggs in a steel frypan without the teflon coating
only true stainless steel is advisable

SLOW COOKER
Hello Ginger,
Do you know if there's a service center in your area where you can get one. Or if go online on the inter-net, just type in Rival.com, it should give you the web site you need to get a copy of your instruction manual.
Okay, Spurs21

Lid not a tight or smooth seal
Hi, I have a Durabrand Slow Cooker and before that I had a Rosemary Conley one, both had loose fitting lids but this did not affect the cooking etc. I think that is the way they are meant to be. Use a non slip mat too as this may help, mine never vibrated even on high. Maybe you should get someone to look at it for you.
