Can the pcm prevent the ignition starter switch from stating a 2002 ford focus

Ignition starter switch ???? It's Just a ignition switch ! If a problem with PATS - anti-theft system , the pcm will not supply a ground to the control side of the starter relay . Starter relay located in the central junction box , inside the vehicle fuse/relay box. Do you know what a relay is an how it works ? How to test electrical circuit's with a DMM - digital multi-meter ? Do you know what a wiring diagram is ? How to use one for testing electrical circuit's .
Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html
Enter the vehicle info. year , make , model an engine size . Under system click on engine ,then under subsystem click on starting . Click the search button then the blue link .Do you have a manual or automatic transmission ? Also won't start if has a bad park neutral safety switch . Try putting into neutral an see if it will start then .
Testing for B+ voltage at pins # 30 & 85 . If you pull the relay an look at the bottom you will see four set's of numbers 30 & 87 ,30 is B+ voltage an 30 goes to the S terminal on the starter solenoid . 85 & 86 is control side of the relay ,one should have B+ voltage an the other is connected to the PCM . When the PCM supply's a ground the relay is energized closing the contacts inside sending battery voltage to the starter solenoid .
Are you confused yet ? Looking at the wiring will show what i just stated . Video's on youtube on testing relay's an their circuit's . Good luck .

Do you know what ignition switch is ? the electrical part. , how about the starter relay , transmission range sensor ! There is one thing you can try , move gear selector to neutral an see if it starts then . If that does nothing ,check for B+ voltage going at the starter relay . Jumping pins 30 & 87 at the relay socket , where the relay plugs into . will cause the starter to engage an spin the engine . If you look on the bottom of the relay you will see four sets of numbers 30 & 87 - 30 should have B+ voltage , 87 goes to the S terminal on the starter solenoid . An 85 & 86 are the control side .86 at the relay socket comes from ignition switch through the trans range sensor to the starter relay coil ( electro magnet ) . Watch these videos too .

I have a 2004 Chevy trailblazer no start no crank but if I put key on hot wire the starter it will start I replace new ignition switch and new starter relay b

Before you do any thing check for loose or bad connections. Also check you ground connection to engine. Check Fuses, relay and for a Fusible Link open circuit. Now let me explain what a Fusible Link does. They are short lengths of small gauge wire installed between the Battery and the Ignition Switch, or the Battery and the Fuse Panel. They'll melt and open the circuit before damage occurs in the rest of the circuit. I hope this was helpful you.

I need a wiring diagram for my 1975 iron head harley. Especially from relay to seliniod

I think I can help with the wiring diagram. Contact me directly at [email protected] The earliest drawing that I have is for a 1979 model but it can be used.

You starter relay has three connections on it. Usually two large connections and one smaller. One large connection is the hot wire from the main breaker or battery. The other large connection goes to the small connector starter solenoid. The small connector on the starter relay is from the starter button.

On the starter solenoid, the positive battery cable goes to the solenoid long connector. The cable to the starter comes off the shorter large connector. The small connector has the wire from the starter relay.

I hope this helps, if not, drop me a line directly. Good Luck

I don't understand my wiring diagram. How does the positive and negative cables hook up to the starter relay and to the battery.I have one small red wire coming from my wiring harness does this wire connect...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If the starter relay in your version uses blue / white and red / white wires, then to my understanding, connection would be:
  • blue / white - goes to the start switch and is supplied with +12 on starting;
  • red / white - goes to the starter circuit cut-out relay. This cut-out relay controls whether the starting relay gets a ground based on neutral/gear and clutch lever conditions.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

NEED CORRECT WIRING DIAGRAM FOR CAR ALARM WITH REMOTE STARTER MODEL NO:NT898SA. PROBLEM IS THERE ARE 4 RELAYS IN TOTAL 1 FOR CUT OUT/STARTER AND THE OTHER 3 FOR THE VARIOUS SEQUENCE REQUIRED TO START THE...

Relays are wired correctly (all except one) what you are doing is supplying the one side of the relay contacts with +12V and one side of the relay energising coils with +12V. the other side of the relay coils are switched on independantly by the -0V from the various outputs from the alarm unit. When relay coils are energised +12V is output through the relay contacts to ACC (accessories) IG1 & IG2 and ST (starter) in sequence. The problem with the cicuit seems to be the IG1 & IG2 relay this seems to just switch +12V between IG1 & IG2 one of them remains on all the time according to weather the relay is energised or not - this is not right. So I have wired the n/o contact of the relay to IG (1 or 2) wire which controls the ignition circuit - this is usually the last ignition wire before the starter wire on the ignition switch.
