You have to have a remote but if you don't have the original, just download a generic remote control app for your mobile and add the device from the DB. I used AnyMote for Android but others are available.
Once I had all the FM channels I needed I binned the app but it would be easy next time.

It sounds like you need a general tune up.
The problem would be timing, your ignition should be set to the right timing to avoid that acceleration hiccups.
Check also the spark plug gap.
