Filter have been changed. The flat spot is the same when it's hot or cold. Should I add an additive to the tank if so what kind? I have heard of the air flow sensor is dirty but I'm not sure on what to use to clean it?
ive no idea what type injection this has, but the MAF can be clean with CRC maf cleaner, plastic safe is best and stay 12" way from hot wire. if its a VAF vane sensor, they can stick too. a dirty maf under reports air. so goes lean. The injection system have OBDiagnstics. yes, then scan it for errors. DTC errors.

I have a Toyota Hilux 3.0 KZ-TE fitted with a intercooler and on Saterday on a 4x4 outing the engine light on the dashboard came on and the motor started spluttering and excessive white smoke came out of the exhaust. The problem persisted for several minutes and then went away. The verdict from other 4x4 owners was that the turbo needs an overall, I cannot understand this as it is fine again with no mechanical interferance.

First try replacing the fuel filter and also check the air filter element, if its clogged with dust replace.
After doing all this check the performance of the engine,if its still the same thn time to remove the injector nozzles for service.
The last option would thn be the pump(injector).
