Idle and stalling

I have a 1992 chev cavalier z24 3.1L multi-port FI. when i stop at a light or sit still idling in gear the car idle drops drasticly, the electrical components slow down and the lights dim. sometimes it idles so low it stalls. i've been told to check something called the "idle air fuel control module". is this correct, if so, what are my options for repir or replacement?

    cant set timing because idle drops to low and truck stalls. someone said my low idle air control needed adjusting. how do i do that?

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

I have a 1992 Honda prelude that when it starts up it idles at 1100rpms fine but after it runs for like five minutes it drops idle to 900rpms and as soon as I hit the gas it stalls out..... It starts right...

on a cold start car will idle fast till it warms up then will drop to about 1000 rpm, try increacing idle speed so when it warms and drops it should stay idleing

Sounds as if your car needs a tune-up, changing sparkplugs, aircleaner, resetting timing, etc:

At the least, it needs the idle set up to the RPM it takes to keep running in gear, but this is only a tempory fix if it does need the tune-up. Raise the RPM and reset the timing along with changing plugs and aircleaner is best way to go.

The idle drops when i put it in gear almost stalling the engine

That is normal, in park or neutral there is no resistance on the engine when you put it in gear there is resistance because the car wants to move. Also when you turn on the ac that turns on the compressor that is run off the belts of the engine so it puts more resistance on the engine. Low idle is not a problem unless the engine dies.

what you need is a lighter wieght oil!

It sounds like the torque converter clutch. Just unplug it. It is the square 4 pin plug on the front of the transmission. Once it is unplugged and you get it unlocked, it will be fine. Just leave it unplugged, it won't hurt anything.

Rough idling and poor fuel economy on 92ford f-150

This whole problem is most likey due to a sludged up intake and idle speed control valve, do the following procedure and it should take care of the problems, also run a couple of cans of LUCUS brand fuel injector cleaner through, I know u will see it is more expensive than other brands, but the thing is it works!
