1995 Honda XR 600 R Questions & Answers
Hi
My XR 600 -
Black smoke indicates a too rich fuel mixture. Be sure the air cleaner is clean. Install a new spark plug. Check what size the main jet is. The prior owner may have installed a larger than stock main jet. There will be a number stamped on the side of the jet. Call the dealer and ask what the stock jet number is for your bike and then tell them what you have. Go back to stock.
My 95 xr600r dirt bike leaks oil
This hose should be connected to the air filter box.
It's for ventilation of the crankcase, much like the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) in cars. As the bike runs, the crankcase gets hot enough to vaporize some of the oil. And since there's always at least a little bit of combustion blowby in the cylinders, you get a bit of fuel/air thrown into the mix and an oil/fuel/air "atmosphere" in the crankcase, which isn't an ideal situation. So, when the hose is connected to the air filter box, it slightly vacuums off this atmosphere, letting the engine burn it and expel it through the exhaust.
If it's not connected to the airbox, the vapors can condense back to oil and just drip out.
If a lot of oil is coming out ("a lot" is hard to quantify), you could be getting excessive blowby because of a broken ring or cracked piston.
Hook that breather line back up to the airbox and unless the bike smokes excessively, I wouldn't worry about it.
If it IS hooked up, it or the airbox is cracked and needs fixing/replacing. If the breather line has somehow become plugged (mud-daubers are amazing at finding holes to makes homes out of), the pressure buildup could have split your vent line.
1995 honda xr 600r has been backfireing upon
Are you talking about "backfiring" out the exhaust or "spitting back" through the carb?
Backfiring through the exhaust under acceleration is rare. If he ignition is misfiring, unburned fuel and air mixture is exhausted into the exhaust system. The next time the plug fires, it ignites this mixure. In other words, your engine is "missing" and your ignition system needs attention.
If it's "spitting back" out of the carb, this is usually an indication of a lean mixture. If it's doing it at wide open throttle, you might need to go up one size one your main jet. If it's doing it under less than full throttle acceleration, raise your needle up one notch and try it again. You want to richen the mixture just a bit. Too much and the bike will get sluggish.
How do you set the timing on a honda xr600r
Technically you don't; the ignition timing is not natively adjustable and neither is the cam timing. To make the ignition timing adjustable requires modifying the pulse generator under the clutch cover. Chaning cam timing requires the installation of a slotted cam gear and the use of a degree wheel to set it properly.
Dies at idle
- Carb jets may still be dirty or improperly sized.
- The Cam and/or Cam journals are worn down and allowing some play in the timing.(Very common on the XR's)
Sounds more like carb or timing issues to me
The stator could be going, but it doesn't sound like this is your issue.

Hi re: Honda xr600r
Check the wiring from the fuse box to the light itself it can be that the wire is loose
The taillight and headlights blow
The charging system is over charging or you are putting the wrong replacement bulb in. My first thought is that the rectifier has burned out or somehow other malfunction. You will also need to check the battery as a malfunction in the rectifier will over charge the battery and actually boil the liquid (acid) out of it.
Want to know what the
Carburetor jet is not adjustable. It has a precise hole size. For richer mixture, replace jet with larger hole.
Dear expert, I just bought
Hi,
Carburettors are notoriously difficult things to balance without the correct tools. I could not advise that you attempt to try this yourself as there are too many possible variations on the fuel mix and manifold vacuum pressure in the carbs.
The only way to balance carbs properly is to use a mercury manometer. The manometer measures intake manifold vacuume pressure and this tool is specifically designed to set the carbs properly. This will have a major effect on the overall performance of your bike.
Take your xr600 to a proper tuning shop and for a small fee they will set the carbs up properly for you. You will notice a major improvement in the bike and you will definitely not regret it!

Honda 500 TRX fa6 has PS on the dash….what does it mean ?
The Power Steering has failed. There has been a factory recall for a suddenly failing electrical steering shaft, that could cause the rider to loose control. This does not have to be your problem but anyhow either the electronics or the pump failed. Error codes or messages usually have to be erased by a simple reset procedure or disconnecting a plug, after repairs are done.
