2006 Harley Davidson XL 1200 C Sportster Custom carburetor backfire @

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are: 1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries. 2. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary. 3. Faulty main circuit breaker and or connections. 4. Faulty ignition coil and or connections. 5. Faulty spark plug, oil or gas fouled, wrong heat range or service type, wrong gap, loose in the cylinder head, broken electrode or insulator. 6. Faulty spark plug cables, leaking or broken, internal damage check for spark leakage in the dark. 7. Faulty ignition module, switch, CKP, MAP, CMP, sensor and or any connector in the ignition circuit could have corroded, loose, or broken pins/sockets 8. Burnt exhaust valve or air leak in the exhaust system. 9. Improper valve clearance (too tight). 10. Check for generated diagnostic codes. Changed oil clogged air filter with new after market air filter bike ran good until the third time I started it it would not idle unless it was choked

My Harley is very slow to warm up, it also does not like to idle without choke unless it is good and warm. It could be the clogged filter was acting like a choke, but ruining your gas mileage. Now with air flowing smoothly the engine needs a bit of choke to idle. It should not need choke once it is fully warmed up unless your idle speed is set too low. With the engine hot, check RPM if you have a tach. If too low, adjust the idle speed at the carburetor. I suggest you find the adjustment while the engine is cold.

2008 Sportster 1200C - When

The hissing sound that you're hearing may be crankcase pressure being bled off or compression bleeding off through a valve that is not completely closed. The delay on the engine turning over could be caused by residual compression, a slow starter relay, or a slow starter solenoid. How old is the battery. Heat, vibration, and age is what kills a battery, not mileage.

Good Luck

Sportster fuel light stays on

There should not be a fuel light on a 2006 model. Your bike has a carburetor, not fuel injectors. And has no electronics in the gas tank. Fuel lights are for models that have a fuel pump and sensor IN the gas tank to warn when the fuel is running low, which they went to in 2007 Sportsters. Instead your low fuel indicator is when you have to switch your petcock from normal to reserve.

I am assuming you're talking about the rear sprocket mounting bolts on the rear wheel. Laced (spoked) wheel - 45-55 foot pounds. Cast wheel, 55-65 foot pounds.

Remove the seat to a harley 2008 custom 1200 roadster

If it is a double seat all you do is unscrew the screw at the back of the seat that goes into the rear fender. Then push the whole seat forward and lift to disengage the seat from the horn post (for lack of what they actually call it) and then pull back away form the take to free the tang that fits under the seat.

My turn signals stopped working and the red key idicator light came on

If the key indicator stays on this usually indicates there is a DTC failure code. If it comes on when you turn on the key and stays off for only four seconds then goes out and comes back on for an eight-second period. This indicates a DTC is stored, but no current DTC exists. If the lamp remains on beyond the eight-second period, a current DTC exists. You need to get a manual to know how to retrieve the code and to look up what the code means.
