Check engine light and vsc trac off lights stay on. Cannot turn svc off by pressing button on Dash

  • Anonymous May 20, 2011

I disconnected battery cable(neg) for about 15 mins and then put it back on. Lights are off now, and car idled kind of rough at first, but then after driving about 20 miles, seemed to have smoothed itself out. So far so good. I am aware light may come back on, but not after driving about 35 miles so far

Hi, have you scanned the vehicle to see why your check engine light is on? IF no, you need to. Toyota/Lexus computer system illumniates both engine light and VSC lights whenver a fault occurs in either unit. VSC or stability control is like trac-control or ABS braking system. Get car scanned and make sure all computers are scanned for additional codes, repair them first reset lights and test drive. ON a side note, fixing check engine light will usually take VSC light away also, however sometimes the VSC system will glitch out and a Steering Angle relearn is necessary, it takes about 3mins to perform and a good quality scan tool with 2004 current software. Good Luck.

I went to Auto Zone and they said minor gas vapor leak., after they hooked up the meter to the connection under the dash...and suggested gas cap. Put on new gas cap and lights still on. Do I need to disconnect Battery cable to reset them? The car really doesn't run differently than before, that I can notice

  • Anonymous May 19, 2011

Did they try to reset codes? If yes you may need access to a better quality scanner, you may also have a VSC active code like the one i described above. IF you want to in the meantime disconnect battery negative cabel end and let sit for 15 mins, if lights reappear find someone with a better scanner to scan both engine and VSC/ABS systems for same/new codes. The gas cap theory works sometimes however Toyota/Lexus uses a sohpisticated emissions control system which is very sensitive to small leaks in emission hoses and componets. This will most likely not cause any problems driving or performance isssues, however it can have an effect on fuel economy, not much but some. Repair shops and dealers uses high tech scanners and emission smoke test units to locate source of leaks, its expensive and sometimes the leaks are almost impossible to find. Disconnect battery, drive for a few days, and see what codes if any back, just make sure the VSC system gets scanned also.

VSC off VSC trac on as well as check engine light on but the car is working fine I've driven with both the lights on? Is there something wrong, what should I do? Should I stop driving and how can

VSC is vehicle stability/skid control. Find the button that turns it off and on. Push the button to turn it on and the light should go off. Most cases systems like these will have a light stay on any time they are turned off. If the vehicle is a 96' or newer call around to your local auto parts stores and you should find one that will scan your vehicle for free and tell you why the check engine light is on. If the two problems are related the scan should tell you what part of the VSC is malfunctioning.

Lexus rx330 check engine with vsc light

Hello, these lights being on indicate a fault that affect both vehicle stability control and engine performance. In some cases, it could be a transmission related concern, but not in all.

However this can be very helpful

Make sure you are completely stopped. Put the car in park if you can.
Press and hold the VSC button for a few seconds.
The TRAC OFF and VSC OFF indicator light will come on. Both systems are now off.
Press the VSC button again. Both lights will turn off and the systems are now reengaged.

You can also check this out if you are having any problems with your smart key

VSC light came on, why?

Most of the time the VSC light will come on with check engine and trac off light. (picture of veh with squiggle lines behind it) Whatever triggers a Check eng turns the vsc and trac systems off. could be a loose gas cap or something related to emissions system. Most times it will have to be diagnosed. Veh maybe equipped to turn vsc off, there would be a button for it.

When starting my lexus GX 470 the vsc off light and vsc trac light go on what is the problem .

The VSC on TRAC off lights will come on when there is an air fuel related issue.
If you have recently filled your tank, unscrew and tighten the gas cap till it clicks. The lights may need to be reset if they stay on after that. They will also be triggered by a fouled O2 sensor ins the engine or exhaust as well as a sticky throttle valve.
If a dealership resets the lights they can attach a code reader under dash to determine the cause in about 5 minutes.

Why is the engine light on along with trac light and vsc light

This could be two seperate problems but the trac and vsc lights can come on when the check engine light does for a number of codes. Have the check ngine light scanned to diagnose the problem. When the problem that caused the engine light to come on is resolved and the code cleared the tra and vsc lights should turn off as well. Rarely they will stay on in which case your toyota dealer may have to do a "zero point calibration".
