I paid a friend to do it because it's a lot of work! if you haven't already treid to or got it done just know that when my friend did it; it took him like 8 hours (he'd never done one on a celica, but had done them on american cars) so if your not familiar with it... not a good idea to do alone. I watched him do most, but i'm not the best to talk to about it.(plus i have a 2000GT) Some of the parts that i can remember that he took out to get to the clutch were the front driver's side tire, the axel on the same side, ....some other parts in there....and ALSO parts on top...the intake also had to be taken out just to have enough room to do the job. parts are cheap...just ask for a clutch kit at auto zone or whatever. around $150. another random tid bit that might help is make sure to tighten the engine mounts really good afterwards or else it will jump around in there when you turn it on and cut it off. buy gear oil before you start as well because you will need to put some in after the new clutch is in. i will need to put the car on a real lift... you need a lot of space underneath and on top to work. and most likely two people. well hope some of this helped.

2002 toyota celica clutch is there an adjustment or is it hydraulic?it also smells like burning clutch?

its a hydraulic clutch. the burning smell could be a sign that the fluid in the master cylinder is low and there isn't enough pressure being applied to the flywheel, causing the clutch to slip. if the clutch disengages at near the end of the pedals "throw", as you disengage the pedal, than its a sign your clutch plate needs to be replaced. but to me it just sounds like a hydraulic pressure issue.

The clutch in my 1998 Toyota celica has been slipping lately and I need to replace it. I was wondering if the clutch is hydraulic and what kind of tools I would need to replace it.

Most Toyota cars are hydraulic. To be sure you should see a fluid reservoir at the driver's side near the brake master. For getting the clutch out you need your set of wrenches, cross wrench to remove the wheels, jack and replacement parts.

2002 celica GTS Transmission makes noise when shifting souns like gears grind although clutch is pressed all the way down. Do not see where to check tranny fluid. I replacing the clutch difficult on this...

There may be several reasons for this. 1st, low transmission fluid levels can cause the gears to grind while shifting due to lack of lubrication. I would suggest checking the fluid level, there is a plug located on the side, in about the middle of the transmission which when removed should slowly seep oil from it. If it doesn't then you will need to add the recommended transmission fluid.
2nd, a maladjusted clutch can cause the same problem. Even though you have the clutch pedal to the floor, the clutch pressure plate may not be completely disengaging from the flywheel. This will cause pressure on the gears and synchronizers while trying to shift. I suggest having the clutch adjusted by a mechanic if you have never performed this function yourself. An inproper adjustment can severely shorten the life of the clutch.
The 3rd option may be a warn clutch component like the slave cylinder if equipped, the throwout bearing or even the pressure plate itself.
A visual inspection can be made of the clutch by removing the inspection plate from the bottom of the bell housing to view the flywheel and clutch. With someone depressing the clutch you should be able to see the clutch moving off the flywheel.

1984 Toyota celica wont start. clicking sound.

Ther is a switch either on the floor or on the clutch pedal that wears out ....it is to prevent car from starting without clutch pedal being depressed...should be simple two wire connection and ea easy replacement....I have tested them by jumping the two wires to see if car starts,,,though you should have car in neutral and park brake on to be safe....good luck...Lee
