1) It is normal for the wipers, in rain sensor mode, to cycle once upon startup.

2) In rain sensor mode, the wipers should be intermittent with the cycles increasing as the volume of moisture increases on the windshield. The speed will increase until it reaches the continuous slow speed of position 2 on the switch. It will not increase to the fastest speed which is position 3 on the switch. You have to go to the fastest speed by manually rotating the switch to postion 3. Doesn't seem like a design flaw to me.

then the wiper arm transmission is what is damaged not the motor
not lubricated properly is a main cause

The windshield wipers on my 2001 c240 only work when I am moving but quit working if my car is at a stop...I hope it is an inexpensive fix. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

IT's your intermittent speed - they only work when moving when set on intermittent. If you go to normal or hi and it stops, then you have bad switch or relay. Sorry to say there's nothing on a BENZ that's inexpensive to repair - I used to work for them.

Windshield Wipers on 2007 Altima Quit on High

It might be either switch itself or wiper relay.
Ufortunatly I don't know location of the relay.
You can actually find relay by noise , put the switch on intermittent position and see where the cliking coming from.

Mercedes c230 windshield wiper starts on its own

Car has rain sensing windshield. Most likely you have the wiper on/off level in the intermittent position, which turns on the sensor. When the sensor detects moisture or even dust sometimes. It turns on wipers. Just make sure the wipers are off and not in the intermittent position.

Horn, windshield wiper not working, new fuse

Before you go to the relay--see if you can scrub the fuse holders clean (for the horn and wipers). Remove the ceramic fuses, and take a stiff bristled brush and some rubbing alcohol to the contact surfaces. Vehicles I used to restore (from the South) that had been sitting a while had green oxidation on the fuse contacts that would cause intermittent opens on the circuit.
