Emissions Workshop on display

Hi, When I turn on the ignition the display shows Emissions workshop. I had the car serviced recently and had this problem before servicing. I mentioned this at the time of the service but the diagnostics never highlighted a problem. This is an intermittent fault. I may use the car for three days or so without the warning appearing and then it may start again. I spoke to the garage about this and they feel this may be caused by a faulty unit but were not sure. Do you agree with this prognosis ?

I have had the same problem. The Emission workshop notification light came on for three days, was off for one than back on. What is the immediacy of getting this fixed?

Emissions light staying on in the dash when I turn the key, and when I start the car after a few second's  Emissions Workshop ! details come on for about 30 seconds, and occassionaly while driving the Emmissions Workshop! notice comes up on screen, and a warning beep will sound. The orange Emmissions symbol stays on all the time.

I had the same problem. I googled the warning and read several of the blogs. One of the last ones said to check your gas tank cover. VW have several clicks before they are sealed. On the way to drop the car off to the shop, I decided to try it. I opened the gas tank and reclosed it waiting to hear all the clicks..... Started the car .... no light... drove 5 blocks and decided not to go to the shop. We are watching it but.... You'd be surprised.

I had this problem myself and was told it could be one of 3 things

1. ignition coils are on their last legs and would need replacing (there are 4 of them in a VW golf)

2. The throttle housing is knackered and needs replacing as it has caused the motor that powers the accelerator to stop working and

3. The catalytic converter has an excess of carbon stored within it and has caused a defect.

All 3 of these jobs are notoriously expensive. Much to the delight of whoever it is you have gone to see....

Sure it may be due to a faulty emission sensor or to another problem of this kind with the emission diagnostic (a short, faulty instrument panel pcb etc.). the way to know this is assessing the emission when the warning light is on. Ask to your mechanic to perform a new test when light is flashing, and eventually test instrument panel and emission sensor, in case emission is ok.

Vw golf se 2002 engine management light has come on whilst driving and was flashing but stopped, also emmissions workshop has come on display, the car seems to have lost power?

You need to have a scan of the engine done There are a number of problems that could cause those symptoms. Ask your repair shop how much they charge for the scan Our shop does them free, some shops charge. Get a copy of the scan results and have them clear the codes. Than ask for quotes on the repairs.

Fault running gear workshop touareg

Not being able to turn the steering wheel at all starts at the ignition lock locking the shaft under the steering wheel. Next if that is ok then it indicates a serious problem in the rack and pinion or the flexible joint to the rack/steering box. As this is a safety issue I would put it on a tilt tray and have a accredited steering repair shop investigate the problem. Check the power steering pump drive belt is still intact

Emissions workshop

Emissions Workshop means that the fuel / air ratio is incorrect. There are many reasons for this problem. The ONLY way to be certain is to have the OBD codes scanned. This will show the problem straight away. If the car appears to be running ok, you may have a problem with an oxygen sensor....but do the scan first. It is the quicker and cheaper option.
Good luck with it

VW Passat 2001: Exhaust emission warning lamp flashing. Manual says 'blinks if the catalyst can be damaged by misfires'. Any suggestions?

"Check engine light" EMISSIONS WORKSHOP! Do you want to shut it off??? After reading all of the negative comments and how much money Passat owners have spent due to this manufacturer's problem, I am going to save the day and save you $$$ by showing you how to "reset" the diagnostic computer which makes the "emissions workshop-check engine light come on! (This is the same thing the VW dealer will charge you hundreds of dollars to do.) To turn off the "Check Engine" (Emissions Workshop) light, simply follow these 5 basic steps:
1. Pop open the hood.
2. Insert the key in the ignition and turn without starting the engine until all of the dash indicators light and warning tones sound.
3. With the key still in the ignition, use a 10mm wrench or socket to loosen and completely disconnect the negative (-) battery cable from the battery. Wait about 60 seconds before reconnecting.
4. Re-connect and tighten the negative (-) cable to the battery and close the hood.
5. Start the engine. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT HAS GONE OUT!
If the light stays on, then there really is a problem. If it has turned off, be glad, but don't be surprised to see it come on again in a few weeks. If it comes on again, simply follow steps 1-5. Remember... This quick repair is for those who just can't stand looking at this light or afford to visit VW every time this light comes on. If you feel the need to service the vehicle, service the vehicle. I hope this has made your "NIGHTMARE" a little easier!!!
