What is the strange noise that I hear in my truck that is in and out sound like whirring ? I have had my mechanic look at and hear it and he determined that it was the front differential but it turns out that is not the solution. This has been going on for over a year. At first it was only heard at high speeds but now it is even heard at low speeds . It is like something breathing hard.

If it stops when u turn ether left or right and it sounds maybe similar to a airplain sort of or maybe the sound of grip tires going down the road id say it was the wheel barring on ether side possiably both. easy fix if it is costed me about 90$ for the part and maybe 20 mins to change

SOURCE: Humming noise in front end of truck

I'm having the same problem with my 2006 Chevy 2500 duramax...The humming starts at 25mph and then gets less prominent and then at 50mph it gets more prominent and louder, then at 60mph you can hardly hear it.....I did notice a little bit of leakage where the front axel meets the from diff on the drivers side.
Any suggestions?

SOURCE: noise in transfer case or front differential

i had the same problem.. it is the vacuum switch on the transfer case. the switch is stuck open and supplying vacuum to the vacuum diaphram under the battery box. the switch is located on the upper side of the transfer case ( not the front differential) which is located driver side of the transmission. the switch cost me about $25.00. I replaced it myself. if you do your own mechanical work you can get it done just be patient.

SOURCE: differential making annoying whirring sounds.

this noise is caused by the pinion bearing in most cases, of course without removing the bearing to look for pits in the race it is at best an educated guess.

Battery light came on and 2006 dodge stratus makes a strange whirring noise. What is this? I just started last night

It sounds like the bearings in your alternator are going so it's charging your battery but no a 100%.

Strange whirring noise just started behind clio dash engine runs but lumpy on acceleraction

Possible that you have a vacuum leak behind the dash. That would cause the noise and the run issue. No info in the USA on that car but lots of vehicles have vacuum controls for the heater and a/c. Need to disassemble enough to determine the source but very likely vacuum.

I am hearing a noise, like a whirring sound that speeds up with the acceleration and makes no noise when in park. Does this sound like cv joint trouble?

a whirring sound can be a bearing on a component under the hood.(power steering pump, alternator, idler pulley bearing, etc),it can also be a serpentine belt from a worn belt or belt tensioner a cv joint won`t make a whirring sound(it will cause a clunking noise or a vibration).

2009 Audi A4 - Strange mechanical noise on opening front door

I dont think this is a problem. I have the same noise when openning the doors on my 2009 1.8t a4, u might also get this sound when you open the trunk as well. this is probably a manufacturing thing. it could be that the car senses that the door are open so that it would prepare the on board computer for ignition or something of that sort... thats my guess though!! but i believe its normal

I have a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe V6 3.5L with automatic transmission. 48K miles. When I start the car after sitting over night, I hear this whirring/whining noise from the engine compartment. I goes away...

your whining noise might be comming from dry belts in order to pinpoint your problem have a jug of water ready before startup open the bonnet then startup if the noise appears pour water over the belts if noise goes away replace v belts
