2002 vw jetta cranks but will not start I left the lights on

2002 volkswagon jetta has a security issue since the battery ran low. It will start but not continoue to run. I have a flashing indicator of a car /key on the panel board

Check that Battery Cables are tight, Check Battery ground to Metal.Do headlights light? I am not aware of any 1 main fuse that would prevent lights, starter from working.Good Luck.

Very difficult. You have to open the inside access door on the drivers side, remove the amp and wheel well cover, pinch the tabs and the bulb cluster will release. The taillight assembly is bolted from inside of the car, so it can't be done outside.

you probably need to get the feul common rail tested, the diesel pumps are also known to give trouble on that model car

check fuel rail pressure with a gage from renting from auto shop shold hold 30 PSI for 60 seconds if not replace fuel pump.

I would check to see if you are getting power to the small wire on the starter solenoid when you turn the key to the starting postion. If you do, the starter is bad. If not, you probably have a bad ignition switch.

Start by checking the switch above the clutch pedal ... I have seen where they come loose, brake or move and when you push in the clutch it doesn't engage the safety switch all the way.

2002 vm jetta reset electronic throttle control

sounds like you need to reset readiness ,which resets throttle and several other things. unfortunatly it needs to be done with vagcom or vcds software, so back to dealer or a reputable VW repair shop
