Disconecting the battery should reset the pcm. but you will need to find out what caused the problems.

Have car scanned for trouble code some auto stores such as auto zone---advanced auto scan for free the code[s] will give u a start point towads correcting ur problem

  • cryptsaver Oct 22, 2010

I had the same problem with my car. After diagnostic it said bad TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). It turns out that on this vehicle the sensor cannot be purchased alone but the whole throttle body. A friend suggested cleaning the throttle manually because there is build up of gunk and dirt in the area. I did it myself and the problem went away instanly. I have suggested this to other owners and has also worked on their vehicles. Hope this helps.

2006 Chevy Cobalt SS. How to get past the antitheft system on it please.

A nice simple answer, you can't. Think of it this way, the car doesn't know you are the owner, and it is there to stop exactly what you are trying to do. You have two computer ECM and BCM, plus the antitheft module and a number of sensors all trying to stop you. All you have to do is the re-learn procedure. Plan B is an auto electrician or alarm / radio installer or auto locksmith.

30 Minute Re-Learn Procedure
  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
  3. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds .

Why is a check gas cap message on 2006 chevy cobalt ls 2.2 showing on inst. panel? L4

I guess you have no knowledge about vehicles
made for the last 35 years, since 1980

We have computers that monitor things & operate
the vehicles

You surely have heard of checking for OBD Codes

You have an Evap System problem to find & fix &
it does not have to be a failed gas cap

Ever read your owners manual, their not of much use,
but you have to get all that down first

2005 Chevy Cobalt Security LIght and Won't Start

Have you tried to do a hard reset? Disconnect your battery for 24 hours. And try it again. This will usually fix a lot of computer malfunctions. Good luck.

Chevy impala cuts off while driving

Check for any stored engine codes, this may give you an idea of any problems that may cause your complaint. Possible crank position sensor, cam position sensor or ignition module would cause a 'die in flight' situation.

2005 Chevy Cobalt- power steering message, check engine light on-

I too had this problem, and it was finally resolved after tracing the wires from the BCM to the steering column. A few of the wires needed to be repaired and repositioned.

My 2005 chevy cobalt factory radio is locked

There are only 2 things you can try to fix this yourself: turn off the engine and open the driver side door (to turn the radio off). Wait 5 minutes, start your car.
If that does not solve it, turn off your engine, disconnect the car battery, wait about 5 minutes. Reconnect the battery (negative pole first - black connector) and try your radio again.

If neither one of these two fix your problem, I am afraid only a GM service center or dealership can fix the problem. The Cobalt is notorious for all kinds of electrical issues.

Thanks for using the fixya forums!
