If you change the head bolts that's the safest bet for trouble free operation. But, I've changed head bolts on Hondas for years and they never stretched. I know this is for a Kia. My best guess is that it's not necessary since the Chilton based manuals don't say to do this.
If the head is torqued down to specifications and it leaks, then I would say, otherwise. Even torque is more important than bolt stretch, especially if the bolts don't stretch so much that the head gasket can't be tight against the head and block.
alloy head petrol then its about 80lbs .diesel around 90 to a 100 not sure their as i just pull any head bolt down till i feel the bolt stretch but i wouldnt advise anyone to do it my way unless its another mechanic ,you know the sort of thing with a few mechanics taking the rise out of one and other ,like what do you want the torque wrench for ,you a weekend mechanic or what .

Install or connect the following:
Starter to the engine wellStarter electrical connectorsLower intake manifold bracket and install the upper boltsStarter into position. When aligned properly torque the bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).Torque the intake manifold bracket bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).Properly position the clutch release cylinder, if equipped. Torque the bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).Torque the intake manifold bracket upper bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).Negative battery cable
hi bob head torque on the 2.0 DOHC is 64 ft lbs , done in two -three steps , also there is a sequence for proper order . here is a very good description with graphics .
